Job summary

Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) seeks a dedicated JROTC Senior Instructor at the high school level to mentor cadets and lead athletic and academic programs. You will teach using the GCPS AKS curriculum, coordinate extracurricular events such as drill competitions, and ensure compliance with service regulations while supporting cadet outcomes and higher-performing teams.

Qualified candidates hold or are eligible for a Georgia PSC permit and military certification, with a Bachelor's degree

Qualifications

  • Must hold or be eligible for a permit issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
  • Must be properly certified by applicable branch of military service.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field required.
  • One of the following Military Qualifications must be met.
  • Hold official military retirement orders.

  • Teach, guide, and mentor cadets using the GCPS AKS curriculum and materials.

What You’ll Need

Experience & Skills
Instruction

  • Teach, guide, and mentor cadets using the GCPS Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum and service‑provided materials.
  • Participate in school and district professional development to enhance instructional effectiveness.
  • Complete required school tasks and participate in staff meetings, committees, and student activities.
  • Perform duties comparable to those of other teachers in the school.
  • Plan and deliver lessons for all curriculum components.
  • Assess cadet performance and maintain accurate grade records.
  • Participate in instructor conferences and professional development at the school, district, and state levels.
  • Meet all continuing education requirements of the state, GCPS, and the supporting service.
  • Follow proper accounting procedures for all funding sources (school, district, service, fundraisers).
  • Counsel and mentor cadets regarding academic performance and Corps of Cadets expectations.
  • Advise students interested in enlistment, scholarships, or service academy applications.
  • Recruit and retain students for the program.
  • Plan and lead marketing efforts within the school and community.
Compliance With Service Regulations
  • Prepare required annual training plans and documentation for JROTC activities.
  • Manage electronic student records and submit required enrollment and performance reports.
  • Oversee service‑related logistics, requisitions, and supply operations.
  • Maintain arms and supply rooms in accordance with regulations.
  • Prepare the unit for inspections, dignitary visits, and service headquarters evaluations.
  • Support planning and execution of summer leadership opportunities.
  • Conduct risk assessments and enforce all safety guidelines (service, GCPS, school).
  • Oversee all facets of the JROTC program, including instruction, activities, and competitions.
Extracurricular Program Management
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate extracurricular events such as drill competitions, Raider meets, academic bowls, air rifle, and orienteering.
  • Organize cadet social events, including annual formals or dining‑out events.
  • Support community requests for color guards and related events.
  • Conduct hands‑on training that reinforces classroom instruction.
  • Supervise cadets during all instructional and extracurricular activities.
  • Structure activities to maximize leadership opportunities, using the cadet chain of command whenever possible.
Other Duties
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
