Job description

Position: Jr Sous Chef

Location: Araxi Restaurant + Oyster Bar

Reports to: Executive Chef

A storied address in the heart of Whistler’s Village, Araxi features an understated, nature-inspired interior design that speaks to the beauty of the spectacular landscape and plays to the authenticity of the location. The regionally focused menu melds local flavors to showcase the best of nearby farms and waters.

We are currently hiring a full-time Jr Sous Chef. The incumbent will have the opportunity to learn from an experienced kitchen team and work with exceptional seasonal products. If you are recognized for being team-oriented, motivated, energetic, and organized, we invite you to apply.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • (Other duties may be assigned as required)
  • Complete assigned daily prep items with high quality and fresh ingredients
  • Maintain a high level of detail with regards to product presentation and design
  • Sample ingredients, mix, and finished products, ensuring standards, quality, and created flavor profiles are met
  • Maintain exceptional cleanliness and keep equipment in optimal condition
  • Lead by example, inspiring staff to deliver a memorable food experience
  • Stay up to date on food trends and contemporary developments within pastry
  • Monitor inventory and budget to ensure optimal use of resources and expenses
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • At least two years of related culinary experience in premium Western cuisine
  • Completion of a designated culinary school
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about bread making, classic baking techniques, and individual dessert plating
  • Ability to multi-task with an eye for detail
  • Organized and able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong English communication skills
  • An understanding of scheduling and inventory management is an asset
  • Applicants must have Canadian citizenship, permanent resident status, CIS, or a valid work permit
