Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Assist with analyzing, testing, troubleshooting, and evaluating existing network systems (LAN/WAN) or segments.
  • Provide network operations, maintenance, administration, and management services for NIPRNet and SIPRNet.
  • Follow DISA STIGs and CND guidelines for security implementation.
  • Monitor and maintain network hardware (Juniper, Cisco) and other equipment.
  • Plan and test installation, configuration, and testing of network equipment.
  • Manage firewall rules and access procedures (PPSM processes).
  • Secure networks by implementing access controls and documenting configurations.
  • Perform fault isolation and hardware repair.
  • Load, configure, and install OS/firmware on network devices.
  • Support installation and relocation of network infrastructure as required.

Program Description

The Space Domain Awareness mission at 19 Space Defense Squadron (SDS) is heavily reliant on communication data lines, the technical services for maintaining and administration of those data lines, communication security (COMSEC) management, and operational support to the facility, all which serve to flow information to and from the warfighter. The expected outcome is to maintain connectivity between 19 SDS and its network of sensors in the Space Surveillance Network, manage the COMSEC accounts and equipment, troubleshoot, diagnose, and ultimately restore data line connectivity during outages, respond and apply updates to data lines and COMSEC equipment, coordinate with base infrastructure support, and liaise with the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) on outages, upgrades, and future projects. 19 SDS requires an on-site presence 24/7 to meet operational timelines. 19 SDS requires contractor personnel to be knowledgeable of their responsibilities, their equipment, and the facility to allow them to advise and participate in discussions regarding facility modifications and how that impacts the communication network, COMSEC equipment, and future connectivity or integration considerations.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assist with tasks associated with analyzing, testing, troubleshooting, and evaluating existing network systems, such as local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and Internet systems or a segment of a network system.
  • Perform network operations, maintenance, administration, and provide network management services for Non-Secure Internet Protocol Router Network (NIPRNet) and Secure Internet Protocol Router Network (SIPRNet) for the 19th SDS.
  • IAW applicable Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and Computer Network Defense (CND) Develop
  • Monitor and maintain network hardware including Juniper and Cisco routers, switches, and other network equipment (i.e., 802.1X security appliance).
  • Monitor and evaluate network performance issues including availability, utilization, throughput, and latency.
  • Plan and execute the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of network equipment.
  • Establish connections and firewalls, submit firewall exemption rules and other connection documents to the Ports, Protocols and Services Management (PPSM) office.
  • Secure networks by developing and implementing network access, monitoring, control, and evaluation systems, and maintaining documentation.
  • Conduct fault-isolation, repair hardware and components.
  • Load, configure, and install operating systems/firmware.
  • Provide all support functions to include installation of new systems and network infrastructure equipment and removal of old systems and relocation of equipment as required by the COR.
  • Maintain designated equipment in good working condition, keep up to date on Air/Space Force and DoD network security requirements and implement those controls.
  • Establish and maintain NIPR and SIPR REMEDY accounts with the Change Management Role.
  • Evaluate network equipment and capabilities and make recommendations to the Government on needed infrastructure upgrades or changes. When considering the addition of new hardware and users, analyze the impact on bandwidth utilization and overall network performance before installing upgrades.
  • Perform NIPR and SIPR network cable maintenance, to include installation, testing, troubleshooting, fiber repair/replacement and cable management.
  • Install and configure all cable components (e.g., power, groundings, HVAC, racks, fiber optic distribution panels, equipment, internal cabling, etc.).
  • Maintain the automated Bogen TPU250 public address system to include configuration.
Job Requirements
  • High School degree and equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in operations and maintenance, contractor support, or a similar field.
  • Familiarity with classified information handling and security management processes.
  • Knowledge of the space surveillance network and satellite catalog is desirable.
  • Complete annual Government-provided Cyber Awareness training (after hire).
  • U.S. Citizen and TS/SCI or TS/SCI eligible.
  • All services are designated as mission essential, therefore extended hours (on call) 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year for critical incidents may be necessary.
