Job summary

Bering-Alaka`ina Holdings (BAH) is seeking a Jr. Data Scientist to assist in data extraction, cleaning, and modeling for a government client in Arlington, VA. You will help develop MOE metrics, preprocess large datasets, and support threat forecasting under the guidance of a Senior Data Scientist.

Proficiency in Python/R, SQL, and Tableau/Power BI is required. You will build dashboards, contribute to data pipelines, and communicate findings to senior staff while complying with DoD security

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or related quantitative field. (Recent grads preferred).
• Foundational knowledge of statistics, math, and ML theories and their application to data.
• Proficiency in Python, R, SQL and data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI).
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills for technical teamwork and advising senior staff.
• Familiarity with DoW structures and security concepts; ability to learn quickly.
• Ability to operate in secure DoW data environments with data governance basics.
• Capable of independent work, proactive requirements management, minimal direction.
• Demonstrated experience with tasks related to legislative, budget, or similar focus areas.
• Excellent oral/written communication; able to translate technical data for DoW/USG staff.
• Willing to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement.

Responsibilities

Bering-Alaka`ina Holdings (BAH) is looking for a Jr. Data Scientist to provide support for our government customer in Arlington, VA.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist the Senior Data Scientist in providing technical and analytical support to ODASW(CNGT) leadership.
• Support the development of the MOE performance measurement framework by extracting, cleaning, and preprocessing large datasets from across the DoW CN community for further analysis.
• Assist in implementing predictive models, machine learning algorithms, and statistical scripts under the guidance of the Senior Data Scientist to support threat forecasting and resource optimization.
• Support the architecture of data pipelines and assist in building, updating, and maintaining data visualizations and dashboards (e.g., Tableau, Power BI). Assist in gathering data for briefings and reports destined for ONDCP and Congressional committees.
• Conduct technical research and draft initial documentation to support the Senior Data Scientist in prototyping enterprise-wide data standards, guidelines, and best practices.
• Provide analytical and technical support during interagency forums and working groups, assisting in the documentation of data-sharing requirements and technical meeting outcomes.
• Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION

• Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related quantitative field from an accredited university. (Recent graduates with limited professional experience are preferred).

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Foundational knowledge of statistical, mathematical, and machine learning theories and their application in evaluating program data.
• Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, R), database query languages (e.g., SQL), and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, with the ability to work effectively on technical teams and support senior personnel on complex data projects.
• Familiarity with, or the ability to quickly learn, DoW organizational structures and basic concepts related to national security or security cooperation programs.
• Capability to operate within secure DoW data environments, demonstrating a working knowledge of basic data security and governance principles.
• Be able to operate independently, proactively manage requirements, and require minimal government direction to achieve desired outcomes.
• Demonstrate prior experience and capabilities for the successful execution of tasks associated with specific duty positions/focus areas (e.g., legislative, budget, etc.).
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills, and the ability to translate highly technical information into plain language for effective communication with DoW and other USG staff in the performance of all duties, tasks and services.
• Must be willing to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement.

REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE

• Must be a naturalized U.S. Citizen.
• Must have an active Top Secret/SCI clearance.
