Job summary

Patriot Machine, Inc. in St. Charles, MO seeks an experienced Journeyman Toolmaker to build, repair, modify, and maintain precision tooling and fixtures. You will set up conventional and CNC equipment, read engineering drawings, and perform tight-tolerance machining.

The role requires formal tooling apprenticeship or journeyman training, plus shop experience. Candidates should be able to work with minimal supervision and supply their own tools.

Qualifications

• Completion of a formal Tool & Die, Toolmaking, Machining, or Machine Shop apprenticeship/training program, or equivalent journeyman-level training.
• Demonstrated experience working in a professional machine shop or tool room environment.
• Ability to analyze complex machining requirements and adapt to meet these requirements.
• Must supply their own tools of the trade.
• Applicant must be a U.S. Person.

Responsibilities

• Build, repair, modify, and maintain precision tools, fixtures, gauges, and machine components.
• Set up and operate conventional and CNC machine shop equipment, including mills, lathes, grinders, drill presses, and related equipment.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, and GD&T specifications.
• Perform precision machining and fitting operations to tight tolerances.
• Select appropriate tooling, cutting speeds, feeds, and machining processes.
• Measure and inspect finished components using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, and other precision inspection equipment.
• Work from limited supervision while maintaining quality, productivity, and safety standards.
• Collaborate with engineers, machinists, and production teams to resolve tooling and manufacturing issues.
• Maintain accurate documentation and communicate job status, issues, and completed work.

We are seeking an experienced Journeyman Toolmaker with formal training and hands‑on experience in a machine shop environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for building, repairing, modifying, and maintaining precision tooling, fixtures, and machine components to exacting specifications.

This position requires strong machining skills, mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and independently complete complex toolmaking projects.
