Job summary

Unity Compass is seeking a mid-level Journeyman Engineer to contribute to testing and evaluation for cloud-based systems in a DevOps-driven environment. You’ll help ensure reliability, scalability, and performance across AWS, DevOps, and Java/Python environments.

You will analyze requirements, plan test events, and develop T&E documentation while collaborating with multiple test organizations to integrate programs and tailor testing capabilities to project needs.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job Overview:

We’re seeking a skilled Journeyman Engineer who thrives on solving complex problems and improving processes in a collaborative, DevOps-driven environment. You’ll contribute to testing and evaluation (T&E) efforts for cloud-based and software-intensive systems—helping ensure reliability, scalability, and performance across AWS, DevOps, and Java/Python environments.

Primary Responsibilities:

Analyze system requirements , concepts of operations, and acquisition plans to develop test strategies, procedures, and reports .

Plan and execute test events —collecting, analyzing, and interpreting results to ensure system readiness.

Support development of T&E documentation including Test & Evaluation Master Plans, Event Test Plans, Readiness Assessments, and Reports.

Collaborate with other test organizations to integrate T&E programs across functional and technical domains.

Provide specialized testing capabilities tailored to system maturity, performance, and risk.

Maintain transparency on progress, blockers, and results to stakeholders and leadership.

Execute automated and manual tests ; confirm and validate system results.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree; or Associate’s degree plus 4 years of experience; or minimum 6 years of related experience .

Demonstrated ability to follow established processes and perform self-guided work .

Seeks guidance only for new or undefined tasks .

Strong understanding of AWS cloud services , DevOps practices , and Java/Python development.

Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code (IaC), and automated testing frameworks .

Proactive team contributor; able to lead tasks and mentor junior staff over time.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum environments.
• Experience integrating testing across multi-cloud or hybrid systems.
• Solid communication skills with the ability to simplify complex technical findings.
