Job summary

The University of Washington Facilities Maintenance & Construction is seeking a Sheet Metal Mechanic for the Seattle campus. This journey-level role performs fabrication, installation, and repair of metal components across university facilities, supporting HVAC, architectural, structural, and custom metal systems.

You will work full-time, Monday through Friday, with a day shift at the Plant Services Building.

Qualifications

• Experience working effectively as part of a team, following direction, and communicating clearly with coworkers, supervisors, clients, and other stakeholders.
• Completion of a recognized sheet metal apprenticeship or full journey status as a sheet metal mechanic, or four years of applicable work experience.
• Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license may be required.

Responsibilities

• Design, fabricate, install, modify, and repair diverse metal components and systems.
• Layout, fabricate, and install HVAC components, fixtures, fittings, ductwork, and related mechanical system components.
• Welding and metal joining using SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, soldering, brazing, plasma arc cutting, and oxyacetylene cutting.
• Coordinate work with leads and supervisors, and communicate with campus partners to ensure safety and quality.
