Journeyman Rigger Job Summary

As a Journeyman Rigger, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing the movement of heavy loads and equipment using pulleys, cables, and hooks attached to cranes. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of rigging principles, techniques, and safety procedures, with a passion for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of heavy loads.

Responsibilities

  1. Use pulleys, cables, and hooks to lift heavy objects such as steel beams, rebar bundles, and mechanical equipment.
  2. Follow all safety procedures and verify the center of gravity on various shapes and sizes of loads including pipes, boxes, crates, motors, valves, and skids.
  3. Determine the working load limit of wire rope slings, round slings, nylon slings, and select appropriate shackle sizes based on load.
  4. Set up and secure air tugger, fairleads, and hoist lines.
  5. Assist crane operators in the assembly and disassembly of cranes and guide workers engaged in hoisting machinery and equipment.
  6. Load, transport, unload, and select rigging tackle according to load weight and size.
  7. Maintain tools, equipment, and work area; restock supplies as needed.

Position Requirements

  1. Minimum 3 years of experience as a rigger or in a related field.
  2. Strong knowledge of rigging principles, techniques, and safety procedures.
  3. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical documents.
  4. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  5. Physical ability to work at heights, lift heavy loads, and perform manual labor.
  6. Valid certification in rigging and fall protection (e.g., OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training).
