The Opportunity

The Journeyman Lineman constructs, installs, maintains, and repairs overhead and underground electrical distribution systems. Working as part of a field crew, you will build new distribution lines, troubleshoot electrical equipment, and operate the equipment needed to complete work safely and efficiently.

This opportunity suits an experienced lineman who takes pride in quality workmanship and enjoys supporting the development of apprentices. You will bring practical technical knowledge to challenging field work while helping crews maintain Forbes Bros.’ commitment to WE WORK SAFE.

Key Elements of the Role
  • Construct new overhead distribution lines, including framing wooden poles, installing equipment, setting up pullers, and stringing conductors.
  • Install, inspect, maintain, repair, and modify high- and low-voltage distribution systems, including transformers, overhead and underground infrastructure, and related electrical components.
  • Troubleshoot faults affecting overhead distribution systems and associated equipment, and complete repairs to restore reliable operation.
  • Safely operate bucket trucks, digger trucks, backhoes, and other equipment used in distribution construction and maintenance.
  • Follow safety procedures, protective equipment requirements, and permits. Participate in tailboards, safety meetings, observations, incident reporting, and corrective actions.
  • Complete work to drawings, specifications, client requirements, and project standards. Report non-conforming work and help prepare for inspections and client walkdowns.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, equipment used, materials, and other jobsite activities, and communicate progress and concerns to the crew and supervision.
  • Provide technical guidance to Apprentice Linemen, helping develop their trade skills, safe work habits, and ability to contribute effectively to the crew.
What You’ll Bring

  • At least four years of powerline industry experience, including electrical distribution construction and maintenance, pole framing, and overhead conductor stringing.
  • Strong technical knowledge of distribution systems, transformers, related equipment, and the construction and maintenance methods used in the powerline industry.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical diagrams, construction drawings, and electrical plans.
  • Strong safety awareness, with the ability to recognize hazards and apply controls to eliminate or reduce risks.
  • Strong communication, listening, problem-solving, and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently, contribute to a crew, and mentor apprentices.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including climbing, manual labor, and heavy lifting, in varying weather and jobsite conditions.
