Job summary

Alliant Energy is seeking a skilled Journeyman Lineman to construct, maintain, and repair high‑voltage transmission and distribution lines. You will operate heavy equipment, install underground cables, and restore service after outages while adhering to safety standards. A four‑year apprenticeship, journeyman certification, CPR/First Aid, and a Class A CDL may be required.

Expect variable hours and storm work. Position requires strong mechanical ability, teamwork, and clear communication.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma is required.
• Four-year formal apprenticeship training such as I.B.E.W. Lineman Apprenticeship Course is expected.
• Journeyman lineman certificate or equivalent, CPR and First Aid.
• May require herbicide certification.
• 4+ years in line construction, operation, or maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Install, tension, tie in and remove conductors.
• Install, frame and climb poles and structures.
• Restore electric service after weather or equipment failure.
• Operate basket trucks, digger trucks, trenchers, backhoes and other construction equipment.
• Install underground electrical equipment including cable and switchgear.
• Follow safety and construction standards and report to work fit for duty.
• CPR and First Aid.
• Report for duty free from drugs and alcohol.
