Xcel Energy is seeking Journeyman Lineman / Advanced Step Apprentice for the Monticello Service Center in Monticello, MN. Join a team performing construction, maintenance and emergency repairs on overhead and underground distribution and transmission systems.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma, a line school or Journeyman certificate, and be able to travel and work at heights up to 100 feet. Starting pay ranges from $49.82 to $62.27 per hour, with full benefits.

We anticipate the need for one or more Journeyman Lineman / Advanced Step Apprentice (5th step or higher) to join our team at our Monticello Service Center in Monticello, MN.

The Journeyman hourly rate for this position is $62.27, and the 5th Step Apprentice rate is $49.82.

This position will be posted for 10 Working Days from October 30, 2026, to November 12, 2026.

Summary

This position will work as part of an electric line crew operation and perform duties of the lineman classification involving construction, maintenance and emergency repairs of all overhead and underground distribution and transmission systems in Xcel Energy service territory.

The successful candidate will be required to reside within a 20 miles radius of the reporting headquarters.

Required

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Must possess a degree/diploma from an accepted Line School or a state issued Journeyman certificate for an Advanced step position.
• Must possess a state issued Journeyman certificate and pass a company skills assessment for a Journeyman position.
• Experience with digger derricks, bucket trucks, trenchers is required.
• Must be able to work at heights up to and above 100 feet.
• Must be willing to travel and work away from home.
• Must be able to communicate effectively; have good teamwork skills and able to understand, comprehend, and follow directions in the workplace
• Must have a quality work ethic and be committed to optimum customer service.
• Must be able to work additional hours, respond to after hours and weekend call outs.
• A high awareness of safety and compliance with company safety rules is required at all times.
• Just meet driver qualification requirements as specified in FMCSR Parts 382 and 391 including the possession of a valid Commercial Drivers License Class A.
• Must live within a 20 miles radius from the Montevideo Service Center.
• This job will require the ability to work in an efficient manner while performing the essential responsibilities of the position which may include lifting and maneuvering
