Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking an HVAC TB Journeyman Mechanic I to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair commercial heating and cooling systems. You will work with journeymen, servicemen, and apprentices to resolve issues and improve facility performance.

Qualifications include 3+ years in HVAC mechanical troubleshooting, EPA refrigerants license, and valid driver’s license; travel up to 20% is required. The role supports both light and heavy commercial environments.

Qualifications

• Membership in, or willingness to join, the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL-CIO.
• Minimum of three years of commercial and/or industrial mechanical troubleshooting experience in the HVAC industry.
• Experience with light commercial or commercial mechanical equipment.
• Experience with rooftop units, pumps, fans, towers, boilers, chillers, compressors, and plumbing.
• Mechanical shaft alignment using dial indicators and vibration equipment.
• Ability to write and communicate customer problem, cause, and corrective-action information clearly.
• Valid driver’s license and applicable state/local licensing.
• Universal EPA refrigerants license.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, repair, and replacement services on commercial heating and cooling systems.
• Troubleshoot and resolve HVACR service issues in light or heavy commercial environments.
• Partner with journeymen on repair of centrifugal, steam turbine, and open-drive screw chillers.
• Support commissioning and aftermarket service by identifying facility inefficiencies and issues.
• Provide recommendations, solutions, and quotes to improve system performance and efficiency.
• Communicate problem, cause, and corrective actions clearly to customers and internal teams.
• Travel 10% to 20% to support branch activities, troubleshooting, installation, and repair.
