Job summary

The New York State Center for Recruitment & Public Service is seeking a General Mechanic to perform journey-level maintenance across facilities and equipment, spanning building trades, electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems. The role may involve supervising others and requires adherence to safety standards as essential personnel.

You will pursue plans from drawings, inspect work, and coordinate materials, with periodic overtime and travel to nearby DMNA facilities as needed.

Qualifications

• Four years of full-time trade experience or approved apprenticeship.
• Must be able to read and write in English.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle in New York.

Responsibilities

• Perform general maintenance and repair across facilities and equipment in multiple trades.
• Inspect work in progress and upon completion to ensure compliance with codes and safety standards.
• Plan and lay out projects from verbal or written descriptions or drawings.
• Supervise maintenance staff and coordinate with supervisors as needed.
• Assist in inventory, material planning, and ordering equipment for projects.
• Operate and maintain tools and equipment safely and effectively.
