Job summary

Prince George County is seeking an Apparatus Technician to maintain, diagnose, repair and modify fire and rescue vehicles and equipment.

General knowledge of methods and tools used in repair, ability to diagnose common defects, and interpret diagrams are required. A High school diploma or GED with five years of experience or an associate degree with two years of emergency-vehicle experience is expected. Class B CDL/EVOC and licenses may be required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; five years of experience in maintenance, repair, and computerized diagnosis of fire apparatus faults at a journeyman technician rating, or an associate degree in automotive technology and two years of hands on emergency vehicle experience.
  • Class B CDL or EVOC required; within 12 months of employment.
  • Possession of a valid Class A Virginia State Inspector's License. Refrigerant recovery and recycling certification.
  • EVT and ASE certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, diagnose, repair and modify fire and rescue vehicles and equipment.
  • Diagnose defects in drive trains, chassis, brakes, pumps, and other components.
  • Interpret sketches, diagrams and repair charts; follow instructions accurately.
  • May work beyond normal schedule; on-call coverage may be required.
