R.W. Mercer Co. is a family-owned construction and service company headquartered in Jackson, Michigan with seven locations – six in Michigan and one in Indiana. The company operates in three distinct areas of construction: petroleum contracting and service, general contracting, and electrical. In each area, R.W. Mercer provides a turn‑key approach that includes planning, design, construction, and installation as well as service, monitoring, and maintenance.

A Journeyman Electrician at R.W. Mercer is an experienced and trained electrician that can work on their own under the general guidance of a Master Electrician. They are responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems.

REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Knowledge of local electrical codes
• Knowledge of electrical circuits
• Ability to read and understand prints, schematics, and written reference material
• Ability to focus on a job and complete the same in a timely manner
• Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
• Ability to guide and train Apprentice Electricians
• Self-motivation
• Experience with petroleum fueling systems and/or Class 1 Hazardous Areas a plus
• Takes control and oversees projects
• Review projects with sales team/project managers
• Ability to have flexible working hours
• Respond to emergency calls as needed
• Acquire proper materials to complete project
• Maintain a clean, well-serviced and well-stocked vehicle
• Attend a code review class every 3 years
• Fill out work orders with time and material rates for billing purposes
• Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Brings problems to the attention of the foreman, safety coordinator, or Human Resources.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints

Electricians risk injury from electrical shock, falls, and cuts; to avoid injuries you must follow strict safety procedures and company policies. Exposure to possible hazardous conditions; work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surfaces and rough terrain; may be required to travel and work extended hours in the evenings and weekends.

Physical

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a construction environment; walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, and twist; push, pull, lift, and/or carry moderate to heavy amounts of weights; operate assigned equipment and vehicles; and to verbally communicate to exchange information. Digging and working in trenches. Working in confined spaces, from heights, and hot/cold weather conditions.
