Journeyman Electrician

Summary: Electrician with a minimum of 6 months documented field experience in the chosen craft discipline. Must have the ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation. Responsibilities and requirements vary depending on experience and assignment. Helpers primarily assist in these activities.

Location: Galesburg, IL

Compensation: $25-$30 per hour

Responsibilities:

1. Prepare sketches or follow diagrams/blueprints to install wiring and equipment, ensuring concealed wiring is installed before walls, ceilings, and flooring are finished.
2. Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using appropriate tools.
3. Pull wiring through conduit with helper assistance.
4. Splice wires by stripping insulation, twisting or soldering, and applying tape or terminal caps.
5. Connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment.
6. Install control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit breaker panels, securing them properly.
7. Connect power cables to equipment and install grounding leads.
8. Test circuit continuity to ensure safety and compatibility.
9. Observe functioning of installed systems to identify hazards or needed adjustments.
10. Disassemble and repair faulty electrical systems or equipment.
11. Load, transport, and unload materials, tools, and supplies.
12. Maintain tools and equipment.
13. Distinguish colors for wiring purposes.
14. Follow procedures such as Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and adhere to safety protocols.
15. Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred, with relevant field experience.
• Knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures in electrical work.
• Ability to follow instructions and guidelines, working under supervision.
• Dependence on established procedures; limited independent judgment.
• Report to supervisor or manager.
