Journey Meter Technician or Apprentice Meter Technician

Wage Range: $44.30 to $51.51 per hour, based on skills and experience

Work Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Summary

Apprentice: Performs apprentice-level technical duties including installing, maintaining, testing, reading, programming, calibrating, and repairing watt-hour and watt/var-hour meters, demand registers, and instrument transformers.

Journey: Performs journey-level duties including installation, maintenance, testing, reading, programming, calibration, and repair of various meters and associated wiring, including single-phase, poly-phase, and Net meters.

Supervision

Works under close supervision of the Operations Manager. No supervision given.

Essential Functions

• Install, program, and maintain metering systems including AMR and AMI.
• Investigate meter tampering, power quality, and billing issues.
• Interact with computers for meter programming and testing.
• Ensure proper wiring according to codes and standards.
• Maintain meter inventory and records.
• Collaborate with team members and stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Apprentice: At least 1 year of electrical or line work experience.
• Journey: Completion of a recognized journey-level Meter Technician Apprenticeship with at least 3 years of on-the-job training.

Special Qualifications

• Journey: Must be a certified Journey Meter Technician, CPR certified, valid Utah driver’s license, and willing to accept on-call work.
• Apprentice: CPR certified, valid Utah driver’s license, and willing to accept on-call work.

• Knowledge of local and state metering codes.

• Ability to work as part of a team and adapt to changing environments.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Requires physical activities such as walking, standing, stooping, lifting up to 50 lbs., and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
