Job summary

Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) is seeking a High Voltage Electrician with Class A to join the Substation Maintenance team in Sacramento, CA. This on-site role involves installation, testing, and maintenance of HV equipment across substations and generating plants.

Qualified candidates will have a recognized electrical apprenticeship and journey-level HV experience, along with a valid California Class A license (tanker endorsement after training).

Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized apprenticeship or equivalent training in the electrical trade.
• Valid California Driver's License and a Class A license with tanker endorsement after training.
• Journey-level experience in installation, connection, and maintenance of HV equipment in substations or large plants.

Responsibilities

• Follow safety policies and procedures and install/maintain equipment.
• Install high voltage switches, transformers, switchgear, and related devices.
• Read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics for installations.
• Perform testing and maintenance on HV equipment and grounding.
• Work at heights using fall protection and follow LOTO processes.
