Job summary

Fdcorp is seeking an experienced Estimator to prepare project estimates by analyzing specifications and plans to ensure cost-effective quantities and construction methods align with pursuit, schedule, and price goals. The role emphasizes leadership in pursuit activities and strong technical writing.

The incumbent will review drawings, incorporate historical data, and coordinate with the estimation team to deliver accurate takeoffs and risk assessments for large-scale projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field is required.
• 5+ years of experience in construction estimating or cost control preferred.
• Specialized knowledge in alternative construction delivery methods.
• Experience using estimating software; HCSS Heavybid preferred.
• Strong technical writing skills are required.
• Ability to lead pursuit and estimating activities on large or complex projects.

Responsibilities

• Review specifications, drawings, and pre-bid materials to determine scope of work and contents of the estimate.
• Incorporate historical data into unit and person-hour figures.
• Provide input on project risks to the lead estimator and align with schedule and cost goals.
• Prepare takeoffs and calculate material quantities from drawings.
• Monitor addenda and advise the estimating team on changes during the estimate period.
• Research vendors and subcontractors to meet pursuit and cost goals.

What you will be doing

• Reviews proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
• Reviews and incorporates historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and person-hour figures.
• Provides technical input regarding project and contract risks to lead estimator responsible for final bid price approval. Reviews final estimate to ensure defined work aligns with overall project schedule and cost goals.
• Prepares discipline estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work. Calculates material quantity requirements from engineering drawing dimensions.
• Monitors client addendum and advises the estimating team on changes during the estimate period.
• Assists with design review options and recommends best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
• Partners with estimating team to prepare and conduct project hand-off meetings between pursuit team and project management team.
• Researches and recommends vendors and subcontractors for designated scopes of work to achieve pursuit and cost goals.

What we are looking for

• Experience using sophisticated estimating software. HCSS Heavybid preferred.
