Job summary

The Guild for Human Services is seeking a program assistant to support Employment Services for students in the day program. You will supervise clients at worksites, coordinate with worksite managers, and help assess capabilities to match training and employment opportunities.

The role requires a B.A. in a related field, direct service experience with youth with intellectual disabilities, and the ability to work flexible hours.

Qualifications

  • B.A. in related field or relevant experience.
  • Experience in direct service with individuals with intellectual disabilities or autism.
  • Massachusetts background check requirements must be met.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise clients in worksites; train students and collect data to establish job norms.
  • Report to worksite managers; discuss problems and coordinate schedules.
  • Assess student capabilities/interests and match to training/employment opportunities.
  • Assist in developing vocational portions of IEPs.
  • Represent the program positively to visitors and the community.
  • Participate in external/in-service training and work flexible hours as needed.

Summary

Assist in the development and take primary responsibility for the implementation/monitoring and evaluation of a program of Employment Services (defined as teaching skills/behavior necessary for employment and career path pursuits), for students within the day program.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Supervise clients in worksites; this includes training of individual students; checking and assuring satisfactory completion of student work; taking data to establish job norms.
  • Report directly to worksite managers; including discussion of problems, coordinating schedules assuming complete responsibility for satisfactory performance at worksite.
  • Assess student capabilities/interests and assure a match to training/employment opportunities.
  • Assist in the development of the vocational portion of the Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Represent student and program in a positive manner to visitors and the community in general; provide a positive, professional, and appropriate role model for staff/students.
  • Acquire job related skills through participation in external and in-service training/evaluation including working flexible hours as needed to accomplish this
Requirements
  • B.A. in related field and/or relevant experience.
  • Experience in a direct service with a similar population (i.e. moderate ID with behavioral and/or autistic adolescents), preferably in a community based program.
  • Must meet Massachusetts background check requirements.
  • Physically/emotionally able to work extended and flexible hours.
