Job summary

Backen & Backen is seeking a Job Captain to lead technical development and documentation for design-driven architectural projects in a hybrid setting, based in Sausalito, CA or Salt Lake City, UT. The role emphasizes coordination with PMs and principals, ensuring quality, completeness, and adherence to design intent.

Ideal candidates will have strong design sensibilities, deep knowledge of building systems, and a track record of producing buildable construction documents, with licensure progress

Qualifications

• Professional degree in Architecture or a related accredited program.
• Approximately 5+ years of architectural experience, including technical documentation and coordination responsibility.
• Strong Revit proficiency and experience managing models and coordinated drawing sets.
• Thorough understanding of building assemblies, detailing, construction methods, and documentation.
• Familiarity with building codes, accessibility requirements, and permitting processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead architectural drawing sets from design development through construction documentation.
• Develop plans, sections, elevations, details, schedules, and specifications that support design intent.
• Translate conceptual design ideas into technically sound, code-compliant, and buildable solutions.
• Coordinate architectural documents with structural, MEP, civil, landscape, interiors, and other consultants.
• Support construction administration through submittal, shop drawing, RFI, and related document reviews.
• Participate in site visits, field verification, and construction observation.
