Job Details

The Dermatology Department is seeking an experienced Histotechnologist to support their Greenville, DE and Center City Philadelphia locations on a per diem basis. The Histotechnologist performs laboratory tissue testing according to established procedures and protocols. Responsibilities include receiving, processing, and preparing tissue samples for diagnosis using procedures such as embedding, microtomy, staining, cover-slipping, immunohistochemistry, and special stains. The role may also involve specialization in specific laboratory disciplines and requires effective teamwork and communication within the department and with other departments.

Job Description

Essential Functions

• Interacts professionally with co-workers, visitors, and staff, embodying Jefferson's values.
• Performs histological procedures including embedding, cutting, and staining tissues for microscopic review, recognizing deviations and referring issues to supervisors. Embeds 40-50 blocks and cuts at least 30 blocks per hour, including biopsies, fatty tissue cases, and routine samples.
• Maintains reagents and equipment, troubleshooting as needed to ensure accurate results.
• Uses computer systems to manage laboratory orders and data efficiently.
• Analyzes and records QC data, implementing corrective actions in consultation with supervisors to ensure accuracy.
• Participates in Quality Control programs to verify testing accuracy and timeliness.
• Communicates specimen submission requirements and test results to clinical staff, providing education on laboratory functions.
• Participates in training, orientation, and continuing education to maintain technical competency.
• Performs additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Histology or related life sciences. 1-2 years of experience preferred; student training accepted.

Certifications

HT (ASCP) or equivalent preferred.
