Genworth Financial, Inc. is seeking a Software Engineer - Java Development in Lynchburg/Richmond or remote Eastern/Central time zones. You will design, build, test, and support Java applications and RESTful services that power aging-care solutions.

Hybrid work is possible; in-office days may be required near the Richmond/Lynchburg area. Ideal candidates have 3–5+ years in Java, Spring, APIs, and SQL, with strong problem-solving and collaboration skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 3-5+ years of experience in application development or software engineering.
• 3+ years of experience developing Java applications.
• Experience with Spring Boot, Spring Framework, or similar enterprise frameworks.
• Experience developing, supporting, and consuming RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
• Experience using Git-based workflows and collaboration.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based applications and services.
• Support production apps by investigating incidents and implementing enhancements.
• Translate business requirements into scalable software solutions.
• Develop and support RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Collaborate with architects, QA, and infra teams to deliver solutions.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices.
• Create technical documentation and participate in code reviews.
• Work with distributed teams across locations and time zones.
