Role Summary
We are seeking a technically strong, hands-on Senior Software Architect to lead the architecture, design, modernization, and engineering of large-scale banking applications. The role requires a strong history of hands-on Java development, deep expertise in distributed and web-based application systems, and the ability to translate complex business requirements into secure, scalable, resilient, and maintainable solutions. The successful candidate will remain technically engaged through solution design, code reviews, proofs of concept, delivery guidance, and complex production troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end architecture and design for cross-functional, multi-platform, distributed, and web-based banking applications.
- Develop application architecture, technical blueprints, reference architectures, and design specifications aligned with enterprise capabilities and standards.
- Define application components, service boundaries, platforms, interfaces, APIs, integration patterns, data flows, frameworks, and development tools.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership for Java/Spring Boot applications, including critical code reviews, proofs of concept, reusable components, and production troubleshooting.
- Design highly available Java microservices, REST APIs, and event-driven solutions using Kafka or comparable messaging platforms.
- Evaluate existing application landscapes and define modernization, migration, reengineering, and rationalization strategies.
- Establish engineering standards for domain modeling, application layering, security, exception handling, testing, performance, observability, and deployment.
- Collaborate with product, business, operations, risk, compliance, security, and engineering stakeholders to deliver customer-focused banking solutions.
- Conduct technical risk assessments covering security, scalability, resiliency, maintainability, privacy, technical debt, and third-party dependencies.
- Design for high availability, disaster recovery, business continuity, and operational resiliency while aligning solutions with banking controls and regulatory requirements.
- Lead architecture reviews, technical-discovery workshops, design sessions, solution-governance forums, and modernization programs.
- Mentor architects, technical leads, and engineers while coordinating client, vendor, onsite, offshore, and globally distributed teams.
Required Qualifications
- 14-18 years of overall software engineering, application design, and architecture experience.
- Strong and demonstrable hands-on Java development history; experience progressing from Java Developer or Technical Lead into an architecture role.
- Recent experience as a Software Architect, Application Architect, Solution Architect, Java Architect, or Technical Architect.
- Deep expertise in Java 8/11/17 or later, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, microservices, domain-driven design, RESTful APIs, OpenAPI, and API-first design.
- Strong experience with distributed systems, event-driven and asynchronous architecture, Kafka or comparable messaging technologies.
- Experience with SQL, relational databases, data modeling, NoSQL, and caching technologies.
- Hands-on experience with AWS application architecture and cloud-native services; working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with CI/CD, DevSecOps, automated testing, secure coding, logging, monitoring, tracing, and observability.
- Experience creating solution-architecture documents, technical blueprints, logical and physical diagrams, sequence diagrams, data‑flow diagrams, and architecture decision records.
- Strong understanding of enterprise architecture principles, standards, frameworks, capability models, and governance practices.
- Experience designing secure, scalable, high-volume, highly available, and mission-critical enterprise applications.
- Direct banking or financial-services technology experience, preferably across payments, cards, lending, deposits, digital banking, customer servicing, fraud, or risk.
- Prior client-facing experience with Incedo or a comparable technology consulting, digital engineering, or product engineering organization.
- Strong stakeholder-management, technical-consulting, communication, presentation, and mentoring skills.
- Ability to work in a hybrid model from Strongsville, Ohio or Dallas, Texas.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience modernizing monolithic Java applications into microservices, modular architectures, or cloud‑native platforms.
- Experience with high-volume banking platforms, regulated applications, or transaction-processing systems.
- Familiarity with TOGAF or a comparable enterprise architecture framework.
- Experience integrating AI or machine‑learning capabilities into regulated enterprise applications.
- Relevant certifications in Java, AWS, Kubernetes, security, or enterprise architecture.
- Experience working in an onsite-offshore consulting delivery model.
