Job summary

Piedmont Global, a Strategic Globalization Organization (SGO), is seeking experienced Japanese Language and Culture Instructors to deliver language training, mentoring, and testing in Japanese for the National Foreign Affairs Training Center in Arlington, VA. This is a temporary contract from Aug 17, 2026 to May 21, 2027.

Qualifications

• Fluent in Japanese with ILR Level 4+ preferred.
• BA/BS, MA/MS, or PhD or foreign-equivalent degree in any field.
• Minimum 3 years teaching Japanese to adults in a group setting.
• Minimum 3 years using proficiency-based or task-based curricula.
• Minimum 1 year administering proficiency-based assessments (FSI tester, DLPT/OPI, quizzes).
• Basic computer skills including email, MS Office, and online meeting platforms.
• Experience with hybrid teaching.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct Japanese language classes onsite in Arlington, VA.
• Use established materials and collaborate with the LTS and other instructors.
• Assess students’ progress and provide feedback; adapt teaching techniques.
• Conduct formal and informal progress assessments of language proficiency.
• Provide a respectful, student-centered learning environment with constructive feedback.
• Maintain an online classroom environment via the LMS.
• With COR approval, participate in non-classroom activities in the DC area.
