Job summary

Global Language Center is seeking a French Language and Culture Instructor to teach adult learners at the National Foreign Affairs Training Center in Arlington, Virginia. Classes are conducted 100% in person on the NFATC campus, with relocation support potentially available.

The ideal candidate will bring ILR level 4+ proficiency, substantial teaching experience, and a strong command of modern instructional technologies to deliver engaging, outcome-focused language courses.

Qualifications

  • Educated native or near-native speaker of French.
  • Experience teaching French to adults preferred.
  • Ability to use varied teaching methodologies to emphasize speaking, listening, reading.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct one-on-one or small-group classes.
  • Use provided curriculum materials to teach classes.
  • Provide students with encouragement and constructive feedback.
  • Apply classroom management for a respectful, student-centered environment.
  • Conduct progress assessments to evaluate student progress.

French Language and Culture Instructor

Global Language Center is currently seeking candidates to teach French to adult learners at the National Foreign Affairs Training Center (NFATC) in Arlington, Virginia.

Classes will be conducted 100% in person at the NFATC campus. GLC may provide relocation support.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and/or conduct one-on-one and/or small group language classes.
  • Use a variety of language teaching methodologies and techniques, stressing speaking, listening comprehension, and reading skills.
  • Use provided curriculum materials to teach classes.
  • Provide students with encouragement and constructive feedback.
  • Apply classroom management techniques to provide a respectful, student-centered environment conducive to learning.
  • Conduct informal or formal progress assessments to evaluate student progress.
  • Incorporate the use of instructional technology into the program as appropriate.
Qualifications
  • Educated native or near-native speaker of the target language (preferably Level 4 or higher on the ILR proficiency scale).
  • Cultural background of the language/the geographical region (i.e., raised in the country where the language is predominantly spoken; lived in a cultural enclave or heritage community that speaks the target language; demonstrated through work experience or academic preparation; completed formal education in the cultural environment).
  • Basic computer skills.
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will fulfill all responsibilities and qualifications listed here. For the higher level of this position (with an associated higher level of compensation), the following qualifications are required:

  • A minimum English proficiency level of a 2/2 on the ILR proficiency scale.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching the target language to adult learners in a classroom setting (2 or more students).
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching foreign language with proficiency based or task-based curricula.
  • BA/BS, MA/MS, or PhD., or foreign equivalent degree(s) in any field.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience administering proficiency-based assessments (i.e., DLPT, ACTFL, OPI, etc.)

The ideal candidate will also have experience with:

  • Developing foreign language instructional materials and/or curricula.
  • Experience using a Learning Management System as an instructor or administrator.
  • Experience teaching with a communicative approach.
  • Experience incorporating a range of educational technology in teaching.
  • Experience teaching blending learning activities.
  • Experience integrating social media applications for educational purposes.
  • Experience teaching with task-based learning materials.
  • Experience teaching with vocabulary-based language learning materials
  • Experience delivering training targeted to needs of diplomatic community.
