Job summary

Salt Lake Community College invites applications for an adjunct instructor to teach first- and second-year Japanese. This is a face-to-face teaching role to support our thriving World Languages program with two or more sections per semester.

The successful candidate will work on-site, join the Japanese team, and coordinate with the World Languages Coordinator. Specific days and times are negotiable, and part-time service is expected weekly at the Center for Languages.

Qualifications

Native or near-native fluency in target language required.
Native-level English fluency required.
Experience or interest in online or livestream teaching in addition to face-to-face.
Training in foreign language pedagogy and best practices.

Responsibilities

Adhere to college policies and maintain professional etiquette with students and staff.
Provide timely feedback on all assignments and return graded work promptly.
Maintain attendance records and track student progress for financial aid purposes.
Design and conduct evaluations of student performance using approved methods.
Inform students of progress and submit grades by deadlines.
Create a safe, respectful instructional environment for all.
Prepare incident reports for inappropriate student behavior per policy.
Communicate effectively with a broad range of people from diverse backgrounds.
Maintain on-site campus presence to foster in-person relationships and meaningful learning.
Contract-to-contract employment with no guaranteed continued employment.
