Job summary

Gulfshoresal is seeking an on-site janitorial worker to maintain cleanliness, safety, and order in City facilities. You will perform floor care, restroom cleaning, waste disposal, window/dust cleaning, and room setup for meetings, under supervision of the Facility Maintenance Director and Supervisor.

Responsibilities include operating cleaning equipment, inspecting facilities for hazards, and assisting in training junior staff. Ability to lift 50 pounds and work as part of a team is required.

Qualifications

• Experience with cleaning methods for floors, walls and fixtures.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Job Summary

Under supervision of the Facility Maintenance Director and Facility Maintenance Supervisor performs a variety of Janitorial duties to maintain the cleanliness, safety and orderliness of assigned rooms, buildings, and related City facilities.

Examples of Duties

• Sweep, scrub, wax floors.
• Vacuum and clean rugs and carpets.
• Clean restrooms.
• Empty and clean waste receptacles.
• Wash and dust windows, walls and blinds.
• Clean walkways, sidewalks and parking lots.
• Inspect buildings for safety, fire and sanitary hazards and report to supervisor.
• Operate a variety of electrical cleaning equipment.
• Maintain janitorial equipment and supplies.
• Perform various tasks in moving or rearranging furniture, desks and other equipment.
• Set up rooms for meetings.
• Answer general questions from the public and City staff.
• May assist in training less experienced staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Good customer service skills. Ability to work with other employees as a team; Knowledge of: Methods of cleaning and preserving floors, walls and fixtures. Cleaning materials and disinfectants, equipment and tools used in Janitorial work. Occupational hazards and standard safety practices. The operation of motorized vehicles and power equipment, vacuums, and floor polishers. Ability to: Use tools required in Janitorial work.

Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds. Must be able to bend, reach and kneel.

Education and Experience

• High School diploma or GED or equivalent vocational training preferred but not required.
• Must possess valid Texas driver’s license, Class “C” with acceptable driving record.
