Performs routine janitorial and custodial duties to maintain county buildings in a clean, safe, and orderly condition for employees and the public. This position is mainly Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional after-hours work as needed. Essential duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and maintains hard-surface floors and vacuums carpets in offices, hallways, lobbies, and other assigned areas.
- Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, floors, and fixtures, and regularly restocks soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and other supplies.
- Cleans breakrooms, kitchens, counters, tables, and other common areas.
- Dusts and wipes furniture, fixtures, desks, and other surfaces as assigned.
- Empties trash and waste containers, replaces liners, and transports waste to designated collection areas.
- Cleans and disinfects frequently touched surfaces, including door handles, light switches, elevator buttons, and handrails.
- Cleans interior glass doors, windows, partitions, mirrors, and other glass surfaces.
- Uses cleaning chemicals, equipment, and supplies in accordance with established safety procedures and manufacturer instructions.
- Places appropriate warning signs and takes other safety precautions when cleaning floors or other areas that may present a temporary hazard.
- Monitors assigned areas throughout the workday and addresses cleaning needs as they arise.
- Reports maintenance concerns, safety hazards, damaged equipment, and supply needs to Facilities Management.
- Maintains janitorial equipment, supplies, and storage areas in a clean, safe, and organized manner.
- Provides courteous and professional service when interacting with county employees, visitors, and the public.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Facilities Director or designee.
- One year of janitorial, custodial, commercial cleaning, or related experience is preferred.
- Ability to safely use common janitorial equipment, cleaning products, and chemicals.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and established safety procedures.
- Ability to work independently, manage assigned duties, and respond to cleaning needs throughout the workday.
- Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with employees and the public.
- Regular and reliable attendance is required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED preferred. Relevant janitorial or custodial experience may be considered in place of formal education requirements.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must successfully complete any background screening required for the position.Working knowledge of basic janitorial practices, cleaning methods, equipment, supplies, chemical safety, and workplace safety procedures. Ability to prioritize work, maintain assigned areas, recognize potential safety or maintenance concerns, and work effectively around employees and members of the public.
