Job summary

Innovative Facility Services (IFS) in Newark, NJ seeks a Janitorial Crew Member for a full-time, union-represented role. Shifts are Monday–Friday, 5:00pm–1:30am.

The position involves cleaning floors, restrooms, and various facilities tasks with leadership opportunities in a fast-paced environment. As a full-time IFS employee (30+ hours/week), you may be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package including health and life insurance and a 401(k) match.

Qualifications

• Experience in building/warehouse cleaning is helpful.
• Ability to follow detailed but plain instructions.
• Good communication with staff and management.
• Willingness to perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain building floor surfaces (sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, etc.).
• Clean furniture, walls, glass, fixtures, and equipment; dust, wash, vacuum, polish.
• Empty trash and service restrooms; restock supplies as needed.
• Move light items as required and assist with carpet extraction if needed.
• Prepare cleaning solutions and monitor safety of chemicals per guidelines.
• Report facility issues to Lead/Manager and secure area after hours.

Shifts Available:

Monday-Friday

5:00pm-1:30am

Summary of duties:

• Clean and maintain building floor surfaces, including but not limited to, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming, degumming and spot cleaning
• Clean furniture, walls, glass, mirrors, fixtures, machines and other equipment (e.g. Dust, wash, vacuum, and polish)
• Gather and empty trash
• Service, clean and supply restrooms
• May move furniture, light fixtures or other items manually or with hand truck
• May extract carpet (small jobs)
• Execute proper use of all equipment
• Clean and maintain cleaning equipment per instructions (e.g. rags, mops, machines, tools and buckets)
• Prepare cleaning solutions (water, detergents and other chemicals) according to specifications
• Monitor and report facility issues requiring repairs (notify Lead, Site or Zone Manager)
• Monitor building security and safety (lock doors after operating hours and ensure electrical appliances are turned off, etc.)
• Properly stack and replace cleaning items and tools
• Ensure supplies are available for each shift
• Report supply requisition needs to Lead/Manager

Requirements for our Janitorial Crew Member position:

• Experience in building and warehouse cleaning work.
• Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved oral or written instructions.
• Communication skills to relate to officials, staff and public in a courteous manner.
• Disposition to perform other duties as assigned.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and safe handling for chemicals sheets/documents (generally in English; may have in Spanish where state required).
