Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY is the only academic medical center in Central New York. Job Summary

Responsible for cleaning, care and upkeep of assigned buildings or areas of buildings. Must perform daily cleaning in all areas including public, patient care, and staff areas. Lead cleaners when required by assigning work, giving instructions, providing assistance, and observing work in progress. Duties include, but are not limited to, providing assistance in resolving work problems, coordinating and assisting in work to be performed; working with and assigning staff on special projects; reviewing work while in progress and ensuring the project will be completed on schedule; implementing and enforcing safety procedures; checking building and areas to ensure all assigned employees are in their areas covered, and training employees. Mop, clean, buff & wax floors, wash corridors, stairs, stairwells, walls and partitions; safely use various hand‑operated equipment and detergents, and other cleaning products; scrub and clean all areas of lavatories, rooms, and facilities. Must be able to bend, lift, climb, walk, stand and stoop for long periods of time and perform moderate to heavy lifting. Must have ability to climb ladders and scaffolds. Must understand and follow verbal and simple written instructions. Excellent customer service skills are necessary. Must be able to read and write.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and to communicate verbally for the purpose of exchanging information. Strong leadership skills required.
