Schedule
The position averages 14 hours per week and follows a repeating 2-week schedule. The hours reflect the needs of the library; there is no flexibility outside of this schedule.
- Week 1: Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday 5am to 9am; Sunday 7am to 11am
- Week 2: Monday, Thursday, & Friday 5am to 9am
Salary
$17 per hour

Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the Facilities & Security Manager, this position is responsible for the general cleaning and upkeep of the library building and property. This role requires the ability to perform light to medium work while maintaining the safety and appearance of the facilities.
Summary of Duties
This position comprises the following essential duties:
- Cleaning and Sanitation (approximately 80%)
- Trash/Recycling Collection and Removal (approximately 20%)
- Other non-essential duties may include furniture placement or removal
Responsibilities
Cleaning and Sanitation
- Clean and maintain all hard surface floors and stairs
- Clean, sanitize, and maintain furniture, including service desks, workstations, public tables, and seating
- Clean and sanitize all washroom facilities
- Clean windows and other glass surfaces
- Dust furniture, fixtures, and shelving or book stacks
- Vacuum and clean carpeting
Trash/Recycling Collection and Removal
- Collect and remove trash from various locations on the premises
- Collect recyclable materials and dispose according to procedures
- Maintain and clean trash bins, recycling containers, and related equipment
- May remove and dispose of other library materials, as needed or directed
Other
- Activate and deactivate the building security system when scheduled
- Assist with inventory control of cleaning supplies
- Prepare for daily opening of the library, including unlocking entrances
- Assist with shifting furniture and equipment
- Assist with meeting room setup as assigned
- Assist with snow and ice removal to provide safe access
- Attend appropriate meetings, workshops, and seminars
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Education, Training, and Experience: High school diploma (or equivalent work experience) required. Some previous commercial janitorial experience desirable.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in a typical library environment. May involve occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for varied lengths of time, and exposure to adverse weather conditions.
