Job summary

Related Management Company in Chicago is seeking a reliable Porter to keep our community clean, safe, and welcoming for all residents. You will support the building from the ground up, indoors and outdoors, including move-ins and high-cleanliness standards across common areas.

Responsibilities include sweeping, trash removal, floor care, and assisting with events. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, work outdoors in all seasons, and have attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Experience in janitorial, porter, or cleaning roles is a plus.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
• Comfort working indoors and outdoors in all seasons.
• High attention to detail and pride in cleanliness.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Sweep sidewalks, lobbies, and hallways.
• Empty trash and recycling bins throughout the building.
• Respond quickly to spills or safety hazards.
• Clean and polish floors, glass, mirrors, and woodwork.
• Deep clean as needed (carpet, grout, waxing).
• Maintain laundry room, fitness center, and offices.
• Report damage or safety issues to the Resident Manager.
• Change light bulbs and prep units for new residents.
• Log tasks and report ongoing issues in building systems.
• Set up and clean shared spaces for events.
• Support recycling/compost programs and safety checks.
• Participate in team meetings and cross-training.

Responsibilities

Be the Heart of the Building

We're looking for a reliable, hard-working Porter to help keep our community clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone who walks through the door. You'll support the building from the ground up - inside and out - by keeping common areas clean, assisting with move-ins, and helping maintain our high standards. If you take pride in a job well done and want to be part of a strong team, we'd love to meet you.

Schedule

• Wednesday - Sunday: 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
• Off Monday and Tuesday

What You’ll Do:

Grounds & Common Areas

• Sweep sidewalks, terraces, lobbies, and hallways
• Empty trash and recycling bins throughout the building
• Respond quickly to spills, weather-related messes, or other safety hazards

Cleaning & Detailing

• Clean and polish floors, glass, mirrors, brass, and woodwork
• Deep clean as needed (carpet cleaning, grout scrubbing, waxing floors)
• Maintain the laundry room, fitness center, and management offices
• Report any damage or safety issues to the Resident Manager

Building Maintenance Support

• Clean stairwells, service areas, and the compactor room
• Change light bulbs and help prepare units for new residents
• Use building systems to log tasks and report ongoing issues

Special Projects & Events

• Help set up and clean shared spaces like lounges, rooftops, and gyms
• Support building events and gatherings by helping with logistics and cleanup
• Keep shared spaces looking welcoming and refreshed

Sustainability & Safety

• Keep elevators, trash rooms, and amenity areas clean and odor-free
• Support recycling and compost programs
• Perform scent and cleanliness checks to ensure the building feels fresh
• Participate in team meetings and be open to cross-training

Compensation:

• $22.82 / hour
• Local 1 Union Benefits
