Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and a welcoming environment throughout the Cincinnati West Side Corps facility.
• Clean interior and exterior areas and assigned vehicles.
• Vacuum carpeted areas and clean glass, floors, and surfaces.
• Mop, strip, polish, and buff floors; manage trash and restrooms; handle supplies.
• Assist with events, food distribution, and community programs as needed.
• Ensure building is secure when not in use and report issues promptly.
• Record work orders and inventory of tools; replace consumables as necessary.

STATUS Non-Exempt (15-20 hours)

SCHEDULE Weekdays 1000 AM-230 PM (30min lunch)

FUNCTION The Janitor is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, safe, welcoming, and well-organized environment throughout The Salvation Army Cincinnati West Side Corps facility. This position supports the daily ministry, community programs, worship services, emergency assistance services, youth activities, food distribution, special events, and other Corps operations. The employee must be dependable, flexible, attentive to detail, able to work independently, and willing to adjust daily responsibilities to meet the facility's needs. Because the building serves children, families, employees, volunteers, congregation members, and vulnerable members of the community, cleanliness, safety, professionalism, confidentiality, and respectful conduct are essential.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

• Reports to The Salvation Army Officer/s verbally, in writing, email, phone or text.
• Reports to The Salvation Army Officer/s upon clocking in for daily responsibilities.
• Be flexible to change work schedules and times when needed to accommodate activities and programs.
• Observe all OHIO State, OSHA licensing regulations, and The Salvation Army policies.
• Promptly report any observed or reported child and vulnerable adult abuse problems.
• Clean all areas of the interior and exterior of the building and vehicles assigned to West Side Corps.
• Clean snow and maintain surfaces from icing by salting and shoveling/Snow blowing.
• Keep cleaning equipment clean.
• Secure building when not in use. Check for unlocked doors and windows.
• Vacuum all carpeted areas weekly and spot clean as needed.
• Clean and maintain all glass windows and doors, interior and exterior.
• Clean and maintain wood, linoleum and tiled floor surfaces.
• Empty all trash in dumpsters daily, wash and sanitize all garbage cans Bi-weekly.
• Keep all areas of the bathrooms cleaned, sanitized and replenished.
• Mop, strip, polish and buff all surfaces of the hallways and gym floor.
• Assist with food bank, load and unload bus as required by Emergency Provider.
• Maintain all gardens on property. Clean out dead overgrowth and maintain. Keep greenery trimmed.
• Be available for Training MSDS, Blood-Borne Pathogens, Chemical Use, Ladder Safety etc.
• Keep a record of Work Orders for all repairs and inventory of all tools.
• Replace materials (Trash bags, toilet paper, sanitizer, lightbulbs etc.) as necessary.
• The Salvation Army has the right to modify, delete, or add to this job description, as needed.
• Daily assignments may change based on building conditions, scheduled programs, inspections, emergencies, or special events.
• Occasional evenings, weekends, or special-event hours may be requested. When possible, the employees’ regular weekday hours will be adjusted so the position remains within the approved weekly hours.
• Schedule changes will be communicated with as much advance notice as reasonably possible.
• Other duties as directed by Corps Officer or assigned designee.
• Obtain a high school diploma.
