Job summary

Racine County is seeking a Jail Officer to help maintain security and safety at the County Jail. You will process admission and discharge paperwork, enter charges, and operate the Central Control system to monitor inmate access and secure entry/egress.

The role involves supervising inmates, handling medical needs, managing logs, and responding to inquiries from the public. A high school diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license are required, along with completion of Jail Officer Basic Training

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Age at least 18 years.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Participation in an oral panel interview.
• No felony convictions unless pardoned or reversed.
• No misdemeanor or offense substantially related to the position.
• Dress code adherence, including uniform and no facial hair.
• Prompt and regular attendance.
• Ability to complete Jail Officer Basic Training (200 hours) and annual recertification.
• CPR certification and annual recertification.

Responsibilities

• Maintain security and safety of the County Jail and supervise inmates.
• Provide for inmate needs and wellbeing, including feeding inmates.
• Process admission and discharge paperwork; enter charges in the jail system.
• Operate Central Control computer system to monitor access and control entry/exit.
• Guard and care for work program inmates and others as directed.
• Distribute inmate medications, manage linen exchange, and respond to medical emergencies.
• Respond to public information requests about the jail and inmates.
• Prepare reports and documents related to duties.
• Assist with inmate searches and clothing exchanges.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
