Job summary

Salt Lake County seeks a Control Room Operator to monitor and control security access into, out of, and within the Jails. The role supports safe, secure operations and requires responders to emergencies, attention to alarms, and coordination with staff.

Two years of related experience, background checks, drug testing, and continuous RAP Back enrollment are required. Work involves monitoring video, radios, and access panels in a secure facility.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of directly related experience (e.g., Law Enforcement, Facility Protection, Security, Dispatch, Corrections, Loss Prevention, Video Surveillance, Call Center).
• Must pass fingerprinting background check and enrollment in RAP Back program.
• Must pass a mandatory drug test before starting; random alcohol and drug testing; possible post-accident testing.

Responsibilities

• Controls employee, prisoner, visitor, and volunteer access to secure doors and areas.
• Remotely monitors movement within jails and expedites access during emergencies.
• Observes prisoners in housing units and common areas; monitors alarm and intercom systems.
• Responds to alarms, monitors tour time-outs, and facilitates emergency evacuations.
• Receives, dispatches, and relays information for calls and special units.
• Monitors recording equipment and controls radio traffic within the facility.
