Job summary

The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Support Service Worker for the Dietary Department at the Manteno Veterans' Home. This role supports food service operations, meal distribution, cleaning, sanitation and other duties to meet residents' dietary needs.

Minimum qualifications include high school completion and six months of dietary-related experience. The position is full-time, in-office, with regular, rotating shifts and opportunities within a dedicated care team.

Responsibilities

• Under direct supervision, performs routine tasks in the kitchen, dining room, or other dietary areas.
• Performs routine food distribution and cleanup duties.
• Takes inventory and documents daily records of nourishments, leftovers, refrigerator, and freezer temperatures.
• Cleans and maintains sanitary standards of kitchen, washing, scrubbing, mopping, dusting, polishing, or waxing floors, walls, windows, woodwork, furniture, appliances, fixtures, and equipment.
• Assists in preparing Ala Carte menu items, room trays, sacks lunches for outings or medical appointments as needed.
• Rotates among various areas and assignments within the Dietary Department to develop proficiency.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

The Support Service Worker plays an important role in maintaining a safe, sanitary, and efficient dining environment while contributing to the quality of care provided to Illinois Veterans. Minimum Qualifications:

• Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school SUPPLEMENTED by six (6) months experience in dietary related support service.

Conditions of Employment:

• Requires ability to pass a background check, drug screen, and pre-employment physical.
• Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
• Requires ability to acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
• Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
• Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
• Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
• This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
• This position requires the completion of an Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) approved food handling training program and the attainment of an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited Food Handlers Certification within 30 days of employment. As a continuous condition of employment, employees are required to monitor expiration timelines, maintain active certification via timely renewals, and proactively submit updated documentation to the agency prior to the expiration of their current certificate.
