Position Overview:

The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking to hire a Support Service Coordinator. This position serves as the shift coordinator for the Dietary Unit, scheduling work, overseeing the performance of assigned duties, maintaining operating records, and preparing routine and special reports as requested. The Support Service Coordinator plays an important role in supporting efficient dietary operations and ensuring services are carried out effectively for the residents of the Manteno Veterans’ Home. Essential Functions:
  • Under direction, coordinates Dietary activities such as food preparation, cleaning, receiving, and storing of food items on an assigned shift.
  • Serves as designated lead worker.
  • Determines daily food requirements and requisitions food from the general storeroom.
  • Coordinates mealtime information and problem resolution from dining rooms.
  • Maintains individual records on food-drug interactions and menus for individuals requiring special needs diets.
  • Enforces Illinois Department of Public Health Sanitation and Safety Regulations to verify the safety of foods served to individuals and staff.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of High School.
  • Requires two years of experience, such as could be gained at the Support Service Provider level in one of the support service functional areas to which assigned.
  • May require possession of a valid Illinois Food Service Sanitation Certificate.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience instructing others in dietary procedures.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience operating and providing maintenance of all machinery and equipment found in the support service area.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience demonstrating working knowledge of accounting, business management, and human relations.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience demonstrating working knowledge of computer use and word processing.
Conditions of Employment:
  • Requires ability to pass a background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen and pre-employment physical.
  • Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
  • Requires ability to acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
  • Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
  • Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • This position requires the completion of an Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) approved food handling training program and the attainment of an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited Food Handlers Certification within 30 days of employment. As a continuous condition of employment, employees are required to monitor expiration timelines, maintain active certification via timely renewals, and proactively submit updated documentation to the agency prior to the expiration of their current certificate.
