AtkinsRéalis is seeking an ITS/Traffic Engineering Intern for our Raleigh, NC office to design and develop ITS and traffic plans, including signal design and fiber routing. You will assist with investigations, planning, and reports, under supervision, and prepare cost estimates for simple projects.

The role requires completion of at least 60 hours toward a civil engineering degree in an ABET-accredited program by Spring 2027, with general familiarity in MS Office and a willingness to learn

Qualifications

• Must have completed 60 hours towards a civil engineering degree from an ABET accredited program by the start of the internship (Spring 2027).
• Education: No experience is generally required if accepted into an Associate's or Bachelor's degree program in a related technical field.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills; familiarity with AutoCAD or MicroStation is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop plans and drawings for ITS and Traffic design including preliminary/final drawings.
• Organize and conduct ITS and Traffic engineering investigations, planning, and analyses.
• Prepare relatively straightforward technical reports and assist in cost/material estimates.
• Participate in quality checks and coordinate with other disciplines as required.
• Perform field observations of construction where appropriate.

### **Job Description**## OverviewAtkinsRéalis is seeking an ITS/Traffic Engineering Intern to join our Raleigh, NC office.## Your Role* Design and develop plans and drawings, which may include the development of preliminary layout and/or final drawings related to ITS and Traffic design. Specifically, our work includes traffic signal design, fiber optic communications cable routing and splicing, utility coordination, signing and striping, traffic safety studies, and more.* Organize and conduct ITS and Traffic engineering investigations, planning, and analysis which have a well-defined scope.* Outline and prepare relatively straightforward technical reports of sections of more complex reports, working under the periodic review of a more experienced professional.* Research feasibility of alternative design approaches, site conditions, regulatory agency specifications, industry best practices, state of the practices, and emerging technologies.* Contributes to the development of specifications and permit applications and writes miscellaneous reports. Prepares preliminary man-hour, cost and material quantity estimates.* Participates in quality control checks, maintaining quality standards in all work produced, checking computations, and/or reviewing reports, designs, and drawings developed by others.* Coordinate with other disciplines as required.
