Job summary

Rhode Island College invites applications for a Teacher of the Visually Impaired at the Sherlock Center. The itinerant educator will conduct vision assessments, provide vision instruction, and contribute to TEAM activities.

Responsibilities include IEP development, Braille instruction, assistive technology collaboration, and staff training to support access to core and expanded curricula for students aged 3–21.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education of children who are blind or visually impaired.
  • Eligible for Rhode Island Teacher Certification as a Teacher of Children who are blind and visually impaired.
  • Experience with children who are blind or visually impaired.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, specialized instruction in vision-related skills and learning.
  • Assessments and evaluation within TEAM; contribute to IEP development.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and staff on accommodations for the core and expanded core curricula.
  • Maintain confidential records of assessments, IEPs, and materials.
