Job summary

Rhode Island College invites applications for an Assistive Technology Specialist to support the Sherlock Center on Disabilities. The role focuses on improving access to assistive technology for individuals with developmental disabilities through training, resources, and statewide programs.

The candidate will assess community needs, develop accessible guides, and collaborate with schools, families, and agencies to promote evidence-based practices and person-centered supports.

Qualifications

  • Essential knowledge and specialized subject knowledge required to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Working knowledge of the principles, practices, and ethical standards of AT; relevant laws, rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn AT hardware, software, 3‑D printing, smart home, safety and security supports.
  • Ability to apply established technology solutions to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Assess statewide needs and identify programs to access AT.
  • Plan and evaluate statewide learning opportunities for the disability community.
  • Research policies affecting AT access and advocate for services.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with agencies to expand AT support.
  • Document and compile AT usage data for annual reports.
  • Serve as liaison to schools and agencies for Sherlock Center AT projects.
