Job summary

Overbrook School for the Blind is seeking a dedicated Teacher for the Visually Impaired to support students with visual impairments and related disabilities. The role emphasizes IEP-based planning, adapted instruction, Braille, and ECC components to foster independence and learning.

Responsibilities include developing individualized plans, delivering direct and consultative instruction, coordinating with therapists, organizing field activities, and mentoring classroom staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education focusing on visual impairment or special education.
• Currently certified in or pursuing Visual Impairment certification (TVI).
• PA TVI certification is required.
• Experience with blind/VI students and additional disabilities.
• CPR/First Aid certification is required.
• Valid driver's license is required.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement Individualized Instruction Plans per student based on assessments.
• Create IEP-aligned classroom goals and provide direct or consultative instruction.
• Deliver adapted core subjects, Braille, tactile graphics, and ECC components.
• Organize field trips and community instruction aligned with curriculum.
• Train and support staff; supervise paraprofessionals and 1:1 aides.
• Lead yearly IEP meetings and maintain student data records.
