Job summary

Montgomery Public Schools seeks a Special Education Paraprofessional to support instructional activities for students with special needs. You will assist the teacher with planned lessons, manage small groups, and help with materials, transportation, and field trips.

You must meet Alabama requirements, including an associate degree or 48 college hours or ACT WorkKeys, and you must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and assist with hygiene and mobility.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 48 college hours or ACT WorkKeys passed.
• Ability to meet Alabama suitability criteria for employment.
• Demonstrated success in relevant work experience.
• Ability to work in a demanding, stressful environment.
• Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication with students, parents and others.
• Interpersonal skills with a wide variety of people and groups.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Physical strength to lift up to 50 pounds and assist with mobility.
• Ability to use technology to communicate and manage data.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates support for the school system and its goals.
• Presents lessons or parts of lessons to students or groups as directed by the teacher.
• Helps students use books, computers, and classroom materials.
• Keeps routine records related to attendance, grades, tests or behavior as assigned.
• Transfers students in and out of holding or locomotion devices and on/off buses.
• Assists with toileting, hygiene needs, and mobility as required.
• Assists with field trips and bus supervision; supports student mobility needs.
• Maintains discipline and supports positive student behavior with staff guidance.
