Job summary

Long Finch Technologies, LLC. is seeking an IT VMware Systems Engineer in Jersey City for a hybrid on-site role. You will manage large-scale VMware ecosystems, lead migrations to VMware Cloud Foundation9, and implement IaC for provisioning and patching while aligning with banking controls.

The role emphasizes automation, AI-enabled operations, and collaboration with global IT teams to deliver secure, performant infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems or related field (or equivalent).
• 5-7 years hands-on experience designing, deploying, and supporting large-scale VMware environments (vSphere8+, NSX-T, vSAN).
• Experience migrating legacy VMware sites to VMware Cloud Foundation9 or newer cloud-native stacks.
• Strong automation background – PowerCLI, vRA, Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell/Python scripting.
• Hands-on experience with Aria Operations suite (vROps), VRLI, and VRNI.
• Storage proficiency with EMC/Isilon, Pure Storage, Dell/NetApp SAN, iSCSI.
• Networking knowledge: TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, NSX-T concepts.
• AI ops concepts: predictive monitoring, automated RCA, LLM-driven chat ops, capacity forecasting.
• Cost optimization: rightsizing VMs, spot/ephemeral instances, improved TCO.
• Excellent communication; able to influence stakeholders and mentor teammates.
• Agile/ITIL experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead Platform Architecture and Migration to VMware Cloud Foundation9 with zero downtime and security baselines.
• Design and evolve the VMware stack (vSphere, NSX-T, vSAN, Aria) for low latency and high availability.
• Implement IaC (Ansible, Terraform, PowerCLI) to automate provisioning and lifecycle management.
• Deploy AI-enabled operations and chat ops for ticket triage and predictive alerting.
• Configure monitoring in Aria Operations, VRLI, VRNI; apply AI anomaly detection.
• Drive change, release, and incident management with adherence to security baselines.
• Collaborate with vendors and global IT teams to align with enterprise standards.
• Participate in DR planning and testing; maintain RPO/RTO targets.
• Provide Tier 2/3 production support; 24x7 rotation; perform health checks and upgrades.
• Liaise with application owners to gather requirements and standardize deployments.

IT VMware Systems Engineer

Jersey City Long Finch Technologies

Location: Jersey City, NJ (Hybrid)

Pay Range: $60 - $65/hour. Employee benefits include, but are not limited to, health insurance (medical, dental, vision), 401(k) plan, and paid sick leave (depending on work location).

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and support large-scale VMware virtualization environments (400–500 servers).
• Work on VMware vSphere 8 and VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF 9).
• Perform real-time capacity monitoring and infrastructure health checks.
• Review and validate capacity enhancement requests (RITMs).
• Drive hardware lifecycle management and replacement of end-of-life servers.
• Support VMware platform migration, upgrades, patching, and production deployments.
• Monitor and optimize infrastructure performance, availability, and capacity.
• Follow banking production change management and governance processes.
• Collaborate with global infrastructure, storage, networking, and application teams.

Key Requirements and Technology Experience

• We are looking for an experienced VMware Systems Engineer / Virtualization SME with strong hands-on experience in VMware vSphere, VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), and large-scale enterprise infrastructure environments.
• Candidates must have strong Banking / Financial Services domain experience with an understanding of production change management, security, regulatory, and governance requirements.

Required Experience & Qualifications (2026)

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
• 5 7years of hands on experience designing, deploying, and supporting large scale VMware environments (vSphere8+, NSX T, vSAN).
• Demonstrated experience migrating legacy VMware sites to VMware Cloud Foundation9 or newer cloud native stacks.
• Strong automation background – expert level use of PowerCLI, vRealize Automation (vRA), Ansible, Terraform, and PowerShell/Python scripting.
• Hands on experience with the Aria Operations suite (formerly vRealize Operations), VRLI, and VRNI for log analytics and network insight.
• Solid understanding of enterprise storage (EMC/Isilon, Pure Storage, Dell/NetApp SAN, iSCSI), and how vSAN integrates with these platforms.
• Deep networking knowledge – TCP/IP fundamentals, VLANs, routing, and NSX T concepts (micro segmentation, distributed firewalls).
• Experience applying AI ops concepts: predictive monitoring, automated RCA, LLM driven chat ops, and intelligent capacity forecasting.
• Proven track record of cost optimisation (rights sizing VMs, leveraging spot/ephemeral instances, improving TCO).
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to influence senior stakeholders and mentor junior team members.
• Strong project management skills focused on outcome based results (Agile/ITIL preferred).

Core Responsibilities

• Platform Architecture & Migration: o Lead the migration to VMware Cloud Foundation9 (VCF9), ensuring zero downtime, compliance, and alignment with security baselines. o Design and evolve the integrated VMware stack (vSphere, NSX T, vSAN, Aria Operations, VRLI, VRNI) to meet ultra low latency and high availability requirements.
• Automation & AI Enabled Operations: o Implement Infrastructure as Code (Ansible, Terraform, PowerCLI) to automate provisioning, patching, and lifecycle management of the virtualization layer. o Deploy agentic AI assistants (LLM powered chat ops) for ticket triage, predictive alerting, and automated root cause analysis within Aria Operations. o Create self healing playbooks that remediate common performance or capacity events without human intervention.
• Performance Monitoring & Capacity Management: o Configure, fine tune, and maintain monitoring thresholds, alarms, and dashboards in Aria Operations, VRLI, and VRNI. o Use AI driven anomaly detection to anticipate capacity bottlenecks and latency spikes before they affect production.
• Process Improvement & Standardisation: o Facilitate environment wide process improvement initiatives (change, release, and incident management) to increase efficiency and consistency. o Ensure all deployments adhere to group standards, best practices, and security hardening guides (CIS, VMware Hardened Base Image). o Interface with VMware, storage, networking, and hyper converged hardware vendors; coordinate with global IT teams to keep the platform aligned with enterprise standards.
• Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity: o Participate in DR planning, testing, and execution for the virtualization environment; maintain RPO≤5seconds and RTO≤15minutes for critical workloads.
• Operational Support: o Provide Tier 2/3 support for production workloads, including 24×7 on call rotation. o Conduct thorough morning and end of day health checks using scripted tools and AI generated health scores. o Perform OS and firmware upgrades, mandatory security patches, and storage system updates through automated pipelines. o Liaise with application owners to gather requirements, design standards, and deploy consistent virtual infrastructure services. o Maintain the service catalogue for internal business lines, regularly reviewing consumption, pricing, and performance metrics. o Report to the Americas IT Infrastructure Virtualization Platform Manager; deliver executive dashboards on SLA compliance, cost savings, AI ops impact, and platform health.
