Job summary

Long Finch Technologies, LLC. seeks a Senior IT VMware Systems Engineer to lead the migration to VMware Cloud Foundation and optimize an enterprise-scale virtualization platform in Jersey City. The role combines platform architecture, automation, and AI-enabled operations.

You will design a highly available VMware stack, implement infrastructure as code, and oversee monitoring, change management, and security compliance with CIS guidelines. Onsite 3 days a week in Jersey City, hybrid work setup.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on with VMware vSphere 8 and VMware Cloud Foundation.
• Experience administering enterprise VMware infrastructure.
• Capacity planning and performance monitoring.
• Understanding of change management, security, and regulatory compliance.
• Experience with Aria Operations, VRLI, and VRNI.
• Familiarity with scripting/automation tools (PowerCLI, Ansible, Terraform).

Responsibilities

• Lead migration to VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF9) with zero downtime.
• Design and evolve VMware stack for ultra-low latency and high availability.
• Implement IaC to automate provisioning, patching, and lifecycle management.
• Deploy AI-enabled ops for ticket triage, alerting, and root-cause analysis.
• Configure monitoring, thresholds, and dashboards in Aria Ops, VRLI, VRNI.
• Maintain security, standards, and CIS-hardening for deployments.
• Provide Tier 2/3 production support and participate in DR testing.

Senior IT VMware Systems Engineer

Location: Jersey City, NJ (Hybrid)

Contract type: Long-Term Contract

Pay Range: $60 - $65/hour

Core Responsibilities

• Platform Architecture & Migration
  • Lead the migration to VMware Cloud Foundation9 (VCF9), ensuring zero downtime, compliance, and alignment with security baselines.
  • Design and evolve the integrated VMware stack (vSphere, NSX T, vSAN, Aria Operations, VRLI, VRNI) to meet ultra low latency and high availability requirements.
• Automation & AI Enabled Operations
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (Ansible, Terraform, PowerCLI) to automate provisioning, patching, and lifecycle management of the virtualization layer.
  • Deploy agentic AI assistants (LLM powered chat ops) for ticket triage, predictive alerting, and automated root cause analysis within Aria Operations.
  • Create self healing playbooks that remediate common performance or capacity events without human intervention.
• Performance Monitoring & Capacity Management
  • Configure, fine tune, and maintain monitoring thresholds, alarms, and dashboards in Aria Operations, VRLI, and VRNI.
  • Use AI driven anomaly detection to anticipate capacity bottlenecks and latency spikes before they affect production.
• Process Improvement & Standardisation
  • Facilitate environment wide process improvement initiatives (change, release, and incident management) to increase efficiency and consistency.
  • Ensure all deployments adhere to group standards, best practices, and security hardening guides (CIS, VMware Hardened Base Image).
  • Interface with VMware, storage, networking, and hyper converged hardware vendors; coordinate with global IT teams to keep the platform aligned with enterprise standards.
• Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity
  • Participate in DR planning, testing, and execution for the virtualization environment; maintain RPO≤5seconds and RTO≤15minutes for critical workloads.
• Operational Support
  • Provide Tier 2/3 support for production workloads, including 24×7 on call rotation.
  • Conduct thorough morning and end of day health checks using scripted tools and AI generated health scores.
  • Perform OS and firmware upgrades, mandatory security patches, and storage system updates through automated pipelines.
  • Liaise with application owners to gather requirements, design standards, and deploy consistent virtual infrastructure services.
  • Maintain the service catalogue for internal business lines, regularly reviewing consumption, pricing, and performance metrics.
  • Report to the Americas IT Infrastructure Virtualization Platform Manager; deliver executive dashboards on SLA compliance, cost savings, AI ops impact, and platform health.

Key Requirements and Technology Experience

• Strong hands on experience with VMware vSphere 8.
• VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF 9) experience.
• Enterprise VMware infrastructure administration and support.
• Capacity planning, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting.
• Understanding of production change management, security, and regulatory compliance.
• Experience with VMware Aria Operations, NSX-T, and vSAN.
• Good to Have: PowerCLI, PowerShell, Python, Ansible, or Terraform.
• Aria Operations, VRLI, and VRNI.
• VMware migration and infrastructure automation.
• ITIL / VMware certifications.
• In-person interview is mandatory.
• Local candidates preferred.
• Must be comfortable working onsite 3 days per week in Jersey City, NJ.
• We are looking for an experienced VMware Systems Engineer / Virtualization SME with strong hands-on experience in VMware vSphere, VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), and large-scale enterprise infrastructure environments.
• Candidates must have strong Banking / Financial Services domain experience with an understanding of production change management, security, regulatory, and governance requirements.
