Job summary

RiverWoods is seeking an IT System Administrator to join our team in Durham, NH. This onsite role with hybrid options supports our Exeter, Manchester, and Durham communities and requires quick on-site responsiveness.

You will manage enterprise infrastructure across Windows, Linux, and cloud services, develop long-term systems vision, and ensure reliability and security while supporting resident services.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in CS/IT or equivalent with 2–5 years of systems administration experience.
  • Experience administering Windows Server, AD, DNS, DHCP, M365, and Entra ID.
  • Experience with VMware/Hyper-V and enterprise networking.
  • Experience with enterprise storage, backup, disaster recovery, and high availability infrastructure.
  • PowerShell or scripting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, administer, and maintain enterprise infrastructure across multi-site environment.
  • Monitor, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize system availability, performance, and security.
  • Perform routine infrastructure maintenance including OS updates, firmware, patching, and DR testing.
  • Develop automation, documentation, and SOPs; assess infrastructure improvements.
  • Collaborate with PMs and vendors to implement infrastructure projects and document configurations.
  • Provide escalation support and perform root cause analysis for complex issues.
  • Participate in capacity planning and technology refresh initiatives.
  • Mentor IT staff and participate in rotating after-hours on-call shifts.
  • Travel to NH locations to support organizational sites as needed.

Overview

System Administrator The RiverWoods Group is currently looking for an IT System Administrator to join our team based out of Durham, NH supporting our communities in Exeter, Manchester, and Durham. This is an onsite position however hybrid options exist for this role; must be able to respond to any onsite need quickly if required. Our IT Systems Administrator will manage and integrate the organization’s systems in a multi-platform, multi-site environment. In this role, you will help develop our long-term systems vision, research relevant platform technologies, recommend purchases, and maintain hardware and software to ensure system reliability and optimal performance. Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, administer, and maintain enterprise infrastructure, including:
    • Physical and virtual servers using Microsoft Windows Server, Linux, Hyper-V, VMware, and related technologies.
    • Network infrastructure including routing, switching, firewalls, VPN, wireless, software-defined networking (SDN), and network security.
    • Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Entra ID (Azure), Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and related cloud services.
    • Enterprise storage, backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, endpoint management, identity management, MFA, and security solutions.
    • Clinical communication and resident Life Safety systems, including Emergency Call, Nurse Call, and other integrated healthcare technologies.
  • Monitor, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize enterprise infrastructure to ensure system availability, performance, reliability, and security.
  • Perform routine infrastructure maintenance, including operating system updates, firmware upgrades, security patching, hardware lifecycle management, and backup and disaster recovery testing.
  • Develop and maintain automation, technical documentation, and standard operating procedures while evaluating best practices and recommending infrastructure improvements.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, vendors, and internal departments to implement infrastructure projects and document system configurations.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex infrastructure issues, perform root cause analysis, proactively monitor enterprise systems, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Participate in capacity planning, technology refresh initiatives, and long-term infrastructure planning.
  • Maintain current technical knowledge through professional development, industry research, and continuing education.
  • Mentor and cross-train IT staff on infrastructure technologies, operational procedures, and best practices.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to provide after-hours support for infrastructure emergencies and planned maintenance.
  • Travel throughout New Hampshire to support organizational locations and infrastructure projects as needed.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and 2 to 5 years of progressively responsible systems administration experience.
  • Demonstrated experience administering:
  • Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, Microsoft 365, and Entra ID.
  • VMware, Hyper-V, or other enterprise virtualization platforms.
  • Enterprise networking, including routing, switching, VLANs, wireless networking, VPNs, and firewalls.
  • Enterprise storage, backup, disaster recovery, and high availability infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience with PowerShell or other scripting languages preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing enterprise infrastructure and network solutions preferred.
  • Technical certifications are desirable but not required (for example Microsoft, VMware, Aruba, SonicWall, CompTIA Network+, or Security+).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to troubleshoot complex enterprise systems, document technical environments, and perform systematic root cause analysis to resolve technical issues

Strong knowledge of enterprise infrastructure, networking, virtualization, cloud services, cybersecurity, and systems administration best practices.

Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.

Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Strong customer service skills with the ability to adapt quickly to changing technologies and business needs.
