Job Summary
The Industrial IT Technician is the on-site owner of information technology and operational technology (IT/OT) support for the manufacturing plant. The technician provides first-line and escalation support for all plant IT issues, maintains the installed network, supports enterprise and manufacturing software, and supports end-user and industrial hardware. When not resolving production-critical (P1/SEV1) incidents, the technician works the help desk / service desk queue.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
End-User and Help Desk Support
- Provide on-site and remote support for all plant users across workstations, laptops, mobile devices, printers, scanners, and peripherals.
- Work the help desk / service desk ticket queue for hardware, software, account, and access issues when not handling production-critical incidents.
- Support Microsoft 365 daily use, including Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, and related collaboration tools.
- Assist Human Resources and plant leadership with employee IT issues, including onboarding, offboarding, access provisioning, and device deployment.
Network and Infrastructure
- Support the installed plant and office network, including switches, wireless access points, cabling, VLANs, and basic routing.
- Maintain connectivity between IT networks and OT / industrial networks, focusing on segmentation, secure vendor access, and shop-floor drops.
- Troubleshoot network issues affecting production terminals, HMIs, scanners, label printers, RF devices, and office systems.
- Act as the local technical resource for network incidents and participate in root-cause analysis of plant-wide outages.
- Document local network topology, assets, and system changes.
Software and Microsoft Backend
- Support Microsoft 365 administration at the plant level, including OneDrive, SharePoint libraries, Teams, licensing, and device compliance.
- Support plant software applications such as MES / shop-floor systems, CMMS, label/print systems, and vendor tools.
- Coordinate firmware and software updates on applicable IT and OT-connected equipment, tracking versions and change history.
- Escalate D365, identity, or platform issues to corporate IT, application owners, or Microsoft support as needed.
Hardware and Shop-Floor Systems
- Deploy, configure, and repair PCs, thin clients, industrial PCs, printers, barcode scanners, cameras, print-and-apply applicators, and related devices.
- Support hardware used on conveyors, automation cells, robotics, palletizers, saws, and ancillary production equipment where IT/OT connectivity is involved.
- Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on assigned IT/OT assets and update PMs to improve uptime.
- Troubleshoot assigned equipment and systems, serving as an escalation point for lower-level maintenance and escalating to leadership or OEMs when required.
- Audit vendor work against quality and SLA expectations and report findings to leadership.
Operations, Incidents, and Collaboration
- Provide 24/7 coverage for P1 / SEV1 incidents that stop or severely impact production.
- Lead or support root-cause analysis of major downtime events on assigned systems.
- Mentor plant personnel on the correct use of equipment, applications, and IT/OT procedures.
- Support corporate IT on daily maintenance, new equipment installs, and hardware/software standards.
Job Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in Information Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands‑on experience (mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering background preferred).
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Strong computer, networking, and endpoint skills, with proficiency in Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Entra ID.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server or similar data stores used by plant applications.
- Experience supporting Dynamics 365 (or a comparable ERP) in a manufacturing or distribution environment, or a clear ability to learn D365 F&O / SCM plant processes.
- Experience with industrial networks, serial/Ethernet device connectivity, and interfacing shop‑floor clients.
- Experience with I/O, PLC logic, HMIs, and troubleshooting PLC‑connected systems.
- Experience with industrial robots or automated manufacturing equipment.
- Ability to read manufacturer drawings, electrical schematics, and equipment manuals.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with control panels and field devices.
- Methodical troubleshooting skills, strong judgment, and a proactive "make it happen" approach.
- Ability to work weekends, nights, and holidays when required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with barcode scanners, machine vision, print‑and‑apply, and RFID hardware.
- Prior lead or supervisory experience.
- Prior experience working in a manufacturing plant, with an integrator, or with an equipment OEM.
- Knowledge of industrial conveyor and palletizing systems.
- Hands‑on experience with Rockwell / Allen‑Bradley platforms (Studio 5000, RSLogix, PowerFlex drives) and industrial Ethernet.
- CompTIA A+ / Network+, Microsoft certifications (MD-102, AZ-104, or D365‑related), or equivalent credentials.
- Familiarity with OT cybersecurity practices (network segmentation, IEC 62443 concepts, secure remote access).

- Environment: Work is performed indoors in a manufacturing setting with regular exposure to cold, heat, noise, and moving machinery.
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, push and pull up to 40 lbs, stand, lift, and carry consistently, and possess proper hearing, vision, and speech capabilities.
- Personal Protective Equipment: Must be able to wear required PPE (hearing protection, safety glasses, goggles, or shields).
