Job summary

Carma Laboratories, Inc. is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician for a 2nd shift role in a manufacturing environment.

The position involves supporting daily operations, repairing equipment, and performing preventive maintenance under the Reliability and Maintenance Manager. Ideal candidates bring strong mechanical/electrical skills, experience with PLCs, sensors, HMI toys, and the ability to work in a GMP environment.

Qualifications

  • Two year technical degree and 5+ years of applicable experience.
  • Experience in industrial maintenance and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Knowledge of PLCs, sensors, servo motors and basic electrical controls.
  • Experience with GMP/OTC environments preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in a manufacturing setting.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, repair and troubleshoot machines and equipment across mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical and control systems.
  • Understand complex machinery, sensors, and HMI screens; perform troubleshooting and repair.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance and keep documentation in CMMS.
  • Weld, fabricate components and perform basic sheet metal work.
  • Support safety improvements and layout optimization for material flow.
  • Collaborate with facilities and production for equipment improvements.
  • Read electrical drawings and select replacement parts; troubleshoot PLC-based equipment.
  • Maintain high-speed packaging and labeling equipment and related automation.

Job description

This position is 2nd shift position working Monday - Thursday, 10 hours per day starting at 3:30 PM, with overtime as needed. This also includes a 2nd shift differential of $2/hr.

Position Summary

This position assists within the maintenance department in handling the day-to-day operations of a manufacturing environment. This includes assisting production in processing, repairing equipment, and preventive maintenance. This position will report to the Reliability and Maintenance Manager and will require strong organizational, analytical, mechanical, troubleshooting and teamwork skills.

Functional Responsibilities
  • Maintaining, repair and troubleshoot machines, mechanical equipment and buildings that have mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical and control parts.
  • Ability to understand how complex machines work, i.e. sensors, HMI screens, basic understanding of programming,
  • Critical thinking and advanced troubleshooting skills to assist in keeping production equipment going.
  • Fabricate basic components, disassemble and assemble production equipment.
  • Complete minor/major preventative maintenance on company assets and production equipment.
  • Assist facilities team in maintaining plant support equipment: air compressors, forklifts, boiler, wastewater treatment system, fire systems, HVAC, pumps, chillers.
  • Maintain neat and orderly documentation, shop and work area.
  • Utilize CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) for preventive maintenance activities and component utilization.
  • Perform general building cleaning and upkeep.
  • Ability to understand equipment and electrical drawings and determine appropriate replacement parts as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot servo driven and PLC based equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain high speed packing, labeling and filling equipment.
  • Support Equipment improvement activities.
  • Weld, perform sheet metal work and employ basic shop floor skills to perform metal working.
  • Understand and utilize precision measurement tools with good data techniques.
  • Investigate and resolve day-to-day manufacturing floor issues.
  • Recommend and implement layout improvements for better material flow.
  • Support safety related improvements related to process/equipment.
  • Other duties/projects as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications

Required Experience, Desired Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years in similar industrial maintenance role
  • Communicate clearly and effectively both written and verbal
  • Demonstrate essential computer skills such as email, machine component research, and other commercial/industrial computer systems
  • Work cooperatively in a cross functional team environment with various departments
  • Ability to lift 75 lbs
  • Basic carpentry, basic electrical, basic HVAC, basic plumbing, basic metal machining, electrical control devices, mathematics and safety
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in either a team or individual basis
  • Problem solving experience or training (8D, Six Sigma, DOE, SPC)
  • High speed manufacturing experience (packaging, filling, labeling)
  • Continuous Improvement experience in Manufacturing Environment
  • Experience in OTC or FDA controlled environment, GMP
  • Experience with blending, filling, packaging, or automated equipment
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting bearings, belts, sprockets, gears, chains, cams, pistons, servo motors and the proper alignment of such
  • Experience with ink jet printers and the PM and repair of such
  • Experience with pneumatics, hydraulics, basic electrical controls (120v, 24v and 3 phase power)
  • Experience with welding stainless steel
  • Fanuc robot experience
  • Experience in PLC programming and troubleshooting
  • Experience and understanding of sensor function and use
  • Understanding of precision measuring equipment
  • Demonstrate technical proficiency for mechanical repair and an understanding of preventative and predictive maintenance techniques
  • Communicate effectively in Spanish
  • Independently develop ideas and make proposals directed toward the improvement of functional area (equipment / process)
  • Employee is to be an independent thinker and must be able to problem solve

Educational Qualifications

Two year, or higher technical degree, and 5 years of applicable experience
