Job summary

Information Management Group (IMG) is seeking a motivated IT Support/Network Technician in Fairfax, VA. You will support both end-user IT tasks and network infrastructure, balancing hands-on troubleshooting with cybersecurity/compliance responsibilities.

Travel 20-30% to locations such as Washington, DC; Pittsburgh, PA; and Albany, NY for cabling, testing, and infrastructure work. Requires Active Secret or L security clearance and strong Windows skills.

Qualifications

• Active Secret or L security clearance required.
• Proficient with Windows; basic macOS familiarity.
• Experience re-imaging, configuring, deploying PCs per build procedures.
• Ability to prepare equipment for new hires: tagging, staging, setup, access verification.
• Maintain IT asset inventories: serials, assignments, spare parts.
• Provide in-person end-user support; document work in a ticketing system.
• Understand basic networking: IP, DHCP, DNS, switches vs routers.
• Comfort with hardware repair: swapping components, diagnosing faults.
• Must be reliable, organized, and able to manage tasks independently.
• Able to lift up to 40 lbs and work in tight or elevated spaces.

Responsibilities

Information Management Group (IMG) is seeking a highly motivated IT Support/Network Technician to join our team in Fairfax, VA. This position requires a professional who brings strong technical expertise, exceptional attention to detail, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities

Your day starts at headquarters, making sure employees have the technology, access, and connectivity they need to do their jobs securely and efficiently. You’ll work across both IT support and network infrastructure, balancing hands‑on troubleshooting with cybersecurity and compliance responsibilities.

Throughout the day, you may:

• Re-image and deploy laptops and desktops using our standard build process.
• Unbox, asset-tag, configure, and/or stage new equipment for new hires.
• Wipe, sanitize, and retire old devices according to company procedure.
• Keep inventory current: assets, serial numbers, assignments, and spares.
• Respond to in‑person help requests and tickets that can’t be solved remotely.
• Replace failed physical hardware: keyboards, monitors, docks, drives, RAM, batteries, etc.
• Support conference room AV, displays, and video‑conferencing equipment.
• Set up, support, and troubleshoot printers, scanners, and other office devices.
• Assist new hires with first‑day setup and walk‑throughs as needed.
• Maintain labeling, cable maps, and basic network documentation
• Provide end‑users with industry best practices

When traveling (20-30% to locations such as Washington, DC; Pittsburgh, PA; and Albany, NY) you will:

• Support network and IT infrastructure
• Install, terminate, label, and test CAT 5/CAT 6 copper cabling and multimode or single‑mode fiber, including ST, SC, and LC fiber connections.
• Use Fluke testing equipment to certify copper and fiber installations, troubleshoot connectivity problems, and verify that cabling meets required standards.
• Work in network closets, server rooms, and other infrastructure environments, performing cable routing, dressing, labeling, patch‑panel installation, and backbone‑cabling work.
• Install and configure infrastructure equipment such as servers, UPS systems, LAN/SAN equipment, patch panels, network jacks, faceplates, and related hardware.
• Coordinate with users, IT staff, and other technical teams to resolve issues, complete infrastructure projects, and keep systems running securely and reliably.

Qualifications

HQ IT Support Requirements

• Clearance: Active Secret or L security clearance
• Working knowledge of Windows and basic familiarity with macOS
• Experience re‑imaging, configuring, and deploying computers using established build procedures.
• Ability to prepare equipment for new hires, including asset tagging, staging, setup, and verification of required access and connectivity.
• Knowledge of equipment lifecycle practices, including device wiping, sanitization, retirement, and adherence to company security procedures.
• Ability to maintain accurate IT asset inventories, serial numbers, equipment assignments, and spare‑equipment records.
• Experience providing in‑person technical support, troubleshooting end‑user issues, and documenting work in a ticketing system.
• Understanding of basic networking: IP addressing, DHCP, DNS, switches vs. routers
• Comfortable with hardware: opening up machines, swapping components, and diagnosing physical faults
• Reliable, organized, and able to manage your own task list
• Able to lift up to 40 lbs, work at heights on a ladder, and spend time crawling, kneeling, and working in tight spaces such as ceilings, under desks, and in closets

Cable Support Requirements

• Clearance: Active Secret or L security clearance
• 5+ years’ experience in cabling or network technician work
• Qualified to install, terminate, and conduct certification testing of Category 3, 5e, 6, and 6a unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable, multimode and single‑mode fiber cable
• Knowledge in the application of the following structured cable standards and codes:
  • ANSI/TIA/EIA 568-B
  • ANSI/TIA/EIA 569
  • ANSI/TIA/EIA 606
  • ANSI/TIA/EIA 607
  • NFPA 70
• Proficient with Fluke DSX-8000 copper/fiber tester
• Proficient with Fluke OFP-100-QI OptiFiber Pro Optical Time Domain Reflectometer
• Writing and speaking clearly and concisely about technical topics

Desired Skills

• CompTIA Security+, CompTIA A+, or Network+
• Experience with imaging or MDM tools (Intune, Autopilot, Jamf, MDT, SCCM)
• Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Entra ID/Active Directory, and ticketing systems
• Basic scripting (PowerShell) or interest in learning
