Job summary

Astreya is seeking an entry-level Field Technician I (Physical Layer Specialist) in Las Vegas to support data center rack-and-stack operations. You will install servers, switches, and storage, terminate copper, and dress cables according to rack plans.

The role emphasizes safety, accurate documentation, and clear communication with the team. Ideal candidates have 0–2 years of field experience, know Hot/Cold aisle containment, and can mount wireless APs while following site drawings.

Qualifications

• 0–2 years of field technician experience in data centers or related environments.
• Proficient in copper termination and cable dressing; able to follow rack elevation drawings precisely.
• Knowledge of Hot/Cold aisle containment and asset tagging.
• Ability to mount wireless APs and perform basic site surveys.
• Adherence to OSHA and clean-build standards; strong safety awareness.

Responsibilities

• Physically installs servers, switches, and storage in rack spaces.
• Executes cabling, labeling, and routing to standard in data center racks.
• Performs passive site surveys by walking defined paths with sensors.
• Assembles racks and aisle containment; inspects cooling and power units.
• Maintains accurate equipment details, serial numbers, and port locations in records.
• Delivers concise progress updates and task summaries to shift leads.

Level 1: Field Technician I (Physical Layer Specialist)

Focus: Execution, Physical Installation, and Validation.

• Experience: 0–2 Years.
• Data Center: "Rack and Stack" operations. Physically installs servers, switches, and storage. Understands Hot/Cold aisle containment and asset tagging.
• Cabling: Proficient in copper (CAT6/A) termination, professional cable dressing (combing), and labeling. Follows rack elevation drawings with high precision.
• Wi-Fi: Performs physical AP mounting and cable pulling. Conducts "passive" site surveys (walking a pre-defined path with a sensor).
• Construction & Facilities: Assembly of racks and aisle containment. Routine visual inspections of cooling/power units. Adheres to "Clean Build" and OSHA protocols.
• Tooling: Basic use of cable verifiers (LinkSprinter), power drills, and label makers.
• Communication/ Documentation: Provides clear, concise updates to team leads and managers regarding physical layer build progress and project blockers . Able to ask clarifying questions in a concise and timely manner. Notes specific equipment details, serial numbers, and port locations without errors. Delivers organized, written summaries of incomplete tasks to incoming shifts to prevent dropped work.
